Doug Shelby Catch Can Review by ViperExchange.

I wanted to take the time to make a post for Doug about his new catch can for the Gen V Vipers. As with anything Doug designs his attention to detail is top notch and always better than I expect to see even on a smaller piece like his new catch can setup.

After talking with Dick about running a can on my Heads and Cam car I decided to go with a passenger side sealed can only. I have been running the can for the last 300 or so miles, which included my Project X passes down the runway, and the Houston Viper Clubs Back Roads cruise that I lead every year. Both events gave me a chance to see if the can was condensing and collecting in both a wide open throttle envirnoment and a laonger cruising situation with WOT bursts thrown in.

Here are a couple of quick pictures to show how I chose to mount it and what it has collected so far.

I was so impressed with the design, ease of install, and what I already see collecting in the can that I am going to keep these on the shelf at ViperExchange for future customer builds.

Thanks again to Doug for letting me work with some of his early designs.

Very nice. Quick question, why didn't you run one on the drivers side? Did you upgrade to the 2016 vent?

Thanks Andy, looks like a nice clean install. In your opinion, is this something worthwhile to do for us regular guys who don't track our cars?

Absolutely, I do not like oil entering the combustion cycle. I understand the need for better emissions but I would rather collect it this way and then just dump it into my recycled oil container instead of routing it into my cylinders.

Yes , Doug Shelby products are top shelf. As you can see I am running Both sides sealed. Also notice I have ran the Passenger side can hose all the way to the manifold to eliminate the oem elbow connections to reduce the possibility of vacuum leaks. Great product. Good Job Doug!

Did you have to remove the intake to " run the Passenger side can hose all the way to the manifold"? That's the way I'm thinking of running mine.

Andy can you expand on that for me? What were his thoughts? What was said to make you decide on a sealed unit / passenger side only. Thanks!

Thanks Andy for taking the time to post about this and run the prototype on your car.

He was able to pull the plastic hose out of the elbow that attaches to the intake manifold and use the hose splice included with the kit to connect directly to the catch can. The only downside of this is that the DSE provided hose will not snap into the strain relief / mounting under the intake manifold like the hard OEM line does.

Anytime Doug it's a great piece and I am sure we will start stocking them at ViperExchange. I chose to leave the factory hard piece in that connects to the underside of the intake only because I preffer to keep as many OEM parts on the car as I can but if I have to change it later I will.

He mentioned that on the vented ACRX cans that the oil would get dirty much sooner and that it wasn't a good idea to run them on street cars. He said that a sealed passenger side can would eliminate most of if not all of the oil going back into the intake so I decided to go that route since I drive the car quite a bit.
