    New active aero for Corvette

Here's a little excerpt from the write up on CarBUZZ.

"...The standout piece of technology is the ride height control system that raises or lowers vehicle ride height in accordance to what the computers think is best for a better lap time or optimal position for the aerodynamics hardware. Chevy, not wanting to copy Dodge’s mistake of adding so much aerodynamic kit to the Viper ACR that it restricted it on the straights, will likely deploy these measures to elevate the Corvette a bit closer to supercar status. When contacted about the matter, Chevrolet Communications spokesperson Ron Kiino simply told Auto Guide, “We have no comment at this time.” Despite the runaround, there’s no arguing with the facts."

13 tracks and 13 records. What a huge mistake! Haha!

I love how they say mistake like the engineers are going "hey guys I just realized this aero might create drag when I read about from an automotive journalist. What would we do without them? Boy are they helpful."

I'm sure we'll see more active aero everywhere as it becomes cheaper to do. Even the new ram lowers itself at highway speeds (I think the Cherokee and other cars do it too) so I think it's just something we will see on performance cars of all levels.

You can bet your bottom dollar GM has it's sights squarely set on the ACR's records. If they do come out with an ACR-like track car they will have no problem selling them. As the ACR has proven the market is there for a "special" track monster and with 1000X more Vette enthusiast's than Viper they will sell. Having some one off Lambo set track records is one thing but having a Vette do it will hurt.

maybe you guys missed the point of that phrase. They may have been saying that they want the corvette to be faster on a straight, not that the ACR is not fast but they want the corvette to be faster with no restrictions that may cause it to be slower on the straights. In other words, make it as fast as the ACR around the turns and when the corvette address the straight line speed, they will rival the records. Admittingly, the aero on the Viper will of course slow it down on the straights but if Corvette can address that and make an aero package without the restriction, it should go faster.
