    Midwest Member Phoning a Friend

Hey guys, I could use some beat up spares for slicks next year and I think I found some. Is anyone around this CL ad willing to grab some wheels and ship them for me? I can paypal $$$ to cover or even offer some spare genII/genIII parts for your time? Help a race poor brother out!

That's pretty close to me. So you'll be paying the seller for them. I'll pick them up and you'll pay me the shipping cost to you...correct?

I would pay you cost + shipping, then you'd pay him. Or rob me. 👀 but that wouldn't be nice.

I'd like to do this for mackzilla, but I'm no expert in paypal, banks clearing checks, etc. I'd have no problem doing it for cash, but that'd be tricky for him. Anybody have a good idea how we can get this done?

You can paypal $$$ to people for no fees, but I can't say if it's instantly available.
I've never been on the receiving end of the transaction.

I'm not sure if there's a limit on the dollar amount either.
I sent $400 to a member on here to buy parts earlier this year, then went to pick them up a few weeks later.

Just make sure that both parties agree on what is a reasonable shipping cost and arrangement before hand. Although it has been years, I found that there was a very large price difference between going to the local strip-mall shipping store and going to the UPS facility when I was shipping wheels with tires. In your case, the wheels will need to be boxed up, which will cost extra if done by the shipper. (In the end, the strip mall shipper guy agreed to ship at a rate that was competitive with what UPS charges if you bring it to their distribution warehouse.)

That's been my experience too. Actually, when I ship wheels I will go to home depot, buy 4 shipping boxes and slide 2 of them together and tape them into 1 super box for each set of wheels. That's about $10 bucks there. Then when I take it to a FedEx/Kinkos and they ask what's in it I simply reply "furniture". It saves a s*** ton.

Not for everyone but it certainly will save you a few hundred if you don't mind a few extra steps.

I've got a FedEx account, but no discount or anything. Does anybody know how much these wheels weigh so I can get an estimate on the cost to ship them?

mackzilla...so you want me to send them in pairs, not 4 boxes.

I've known people to leave old tires on wheels as shipping protection. Yes it increases price but it's cheaper than repaired wheels.

    good luck, all
