    Winter Storage

    Hi,
Should I change my oil before winter storage with only on this 500 miles driven on this change?
    Thanks
    Eric

I change my oil the day I put it away for storage. With 500 miles I’d probably pass.

Interesting..... is it better to change your oil right before storage or first thing after you get it out of storage?

It's absolutely, positively best to live where you don't store your car. Drive, drive, drive. Only change the oil because you have put many miles on the beast.

synthetic oil has a shelf life of 5 years according to M1 which is probably a conservative estimate. Sure an engine produces byproducts that degrade the oil over time but it isnt producing those when its sitting for several months. You'll be fine, I think people overthink this.

https://www.duckhams.com/why-you-sho...winter-lay-up/ As best as I can describe this a matter of personal preference and interpretation of the information that's available. The attached link has some additional info for your review. I personally have been doing this for many years in my Motor Cycle engines and Diesel powered boat engines.

Maybe some consider it overthinking but I don't think about it at all and keep it quite simple.

Change oil in any car going into storage, regardless of miles. There are enough contaminants in any used oil that its good to get it out and let the engine get coated with clean oil when putting it away. Then come spring, its all ready to go.

These are high performance, relatively expensive cars. Are we worried about spending a hundred plus on an oil change or is it just to much trouble to do it ?

I am with you, the big issue is the contaminants causing an acidic condition in the oil.
