For those folks planning to bring trailers to the Tail. We have parking available at the Public Parking Lot about 1200 East Parkway (Hwy 321) between the Post Office and the American Legion. For those who need a landmark, this is past the Alamo Steakhouse just beyond Food City where most of us get gas. The city fathers would like the trailers parked in the back - disconnected from the tow vehicles and backed in place at the rear of the parking area. This is a public lot and is first come first served - no reservations. The police have agreed to patrol the lot and everything should be secure. Any questions? Please contact me if you need more information. joel.hausler@mtsu.edu or 615-308-3358

For those folks coming in on Thursday afternoon (or before) - especially first timers, we have reserved one room at the Alamo (about 55 seats) for dinner at 6:30. We usually go over the agenda and important things at this time. If you plan to come to the Alamo for dinner, please let us know so we can get a head count. There is an additional room available if we need it. We have over 150 people registered now so this is a courtesy to us and to the Alamo Restaurant so that we can be as prepared as possible so everyone will have the best time and be prepared for the weekend. Lots of event veterans know the routes and rules but we want to make a welcome dinner available so you can meet old friends and we can make newcomers welcome. We will have registration starting about 3:30 pm and then again after dinner for those folks who got in late. Thanks for your help in making this another great year for the Tail of the Dragon. We will be emailing itineraries and other details after registration closes. You may contact me at joel.hausler@mtsu.edu or 615-308-3358 for any questions about the event or post questions on the forum.

I'm a little late to the party.... Just purchased my 2016 GTC and nice to get back into a Viper again. Been 11 years since I sold my 1998 GTS. I'm not certain if I can dedicate enough time to join for this entire event, but I live just outside of Charlotte and could easily drive up for a day or possibly an overnight. What are the general routes/rules you mentioned?

General rules are don't do anything stupid and don't cross the double yellow line. There will be a lot of traffic and other car clubs that weekend and the police have generally patrolled the Dragon closely and take a very dim view of going over the center line. Stupid covers a lot of ground. We have spent years trying to build up good will with the community in the Gatlinburg area so we try to show them the same respect. That doesn't mean you can't have fun but putting yourself or someone else at risk is not what we have in mind. Fortunately we have only had to call out a few folks for being stupid. It is the club reputation that is damaged by individuals going beyond their skill level or what is generally considered safe.

If you go on one of our escorted cruises, we try to keep folks together and keep on schedule. There are a lot of miles to travel on the runs and keeping everyone moving to meet our dinner and parade deadlines is important. It also keeps folks from getting lost. If folks want to venture out on your own, we are fine with that too. When you have 100 cars involved in an event, it is a bit like herding cats. We want everyone to have a great time and go to great lengths to plan our rides so that folks do. We also discuss times to leave and then the agenda for each day. Even if you can't come all weekend, registering for the event has benefits. Friday dinner, t-shirts and souvenirs, agenda, and other goodies make the price of admission well worth it.
