Bone stock with fast drivers these cars can/do get hot on the track, oil temps close to 300* but still run pretty fast. There are plenty of cooling mods out there that work. We used to have a 750whp tune/pulley Z06 running in nasa with us that ran cool and letting one of our faster guys drive it the car was capable of some crazy lap times even with a passenger (over 4,000 lbs).

4000 lb track car with 750 whp just seem nuts...the amount of momentum that thing would carry through the corners and its brakes must be hotter than.....

I don't disagree that they do get hot when pushed very hard but I think arguing that they are unacceptable is a stretch.

My racing is mostly with Miata but we do test days with Viper and Corvettes. Except z06 temps are similar to Viper, with factory update and relatively cheap mods z06 also is manageable at stock power levels. I have no experience with auto versions but I guess they might be slightly worse.

price hike for 2021? They have done it in the past within just a few months of release. Dont get too excited over the price

    https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/2...tingray-price/

The previous-generation Corvette Stingray originally started life as a $51,995 machine in 2014. A few months later, the price jumped to $53,993, then to $55,995 in 2015. There's a pattern here, and if demand for the C8 Corvette is as high as Chevy thinks it will be, the $59,995 price isn't likely to stick around long

I read this morning that Corvette Engineering used a Porsche Turbo S as a benchmark Car for the New C8 Corvette. Hopefully their budget plays out in good results....

Hard to argue that they did not have an ambitious benchmark and one to truly see the success of their re-engineered C8.

Not unexpected. The demand so far is anticipated to outstrip supply, so why not move pricing higher?

Nissan did this each year with the GT-R to great success, eventually bringing their $55,995 car to $100k+ over nearly 10 years. Not bad.

If GM follows this route, and slightly increases performance each year, they can eventually move Corvette into a higher tier brand. I understand that this is GM's play for the upcoming Cadillac Escalade as well -- to move it significantly upscale with the next gen.

Well Nissan successfully raised the price. Not sure it was successful from a sales standpoint...

They're selling 1/3 the cars and 3X the price but I'd imagine their costs have diminished their margin.

This just in... hold the presses!!

A guy on another Forum says he knows the Track Foreman at Spring Mountain and says, that according to the Track Foremen, Spring Mountain has NOT received any C8 Vettes yet.
I repeat... they have NOT received any C8 Corvettes at Spring Mountain yet.

Does Spring Mountain have a "Track Foremen"?
Is this Track Foremen affiliated with the Ron Fellows School of Driving?
    Does he wear a cape?
Is that a picture of a Rest-Stop in Wyoming?
    Which way is North?

    The plot thickens.

11.3 at 121 sounds right. I think magazine road tests will be closer to 123 trap imo. GT3's are 11.0 at 125 and C8 is 350 lbs heavier.

GMs own literature says the 3,366 is dry weight. It is 100% in the mid to high 3500s wet.

Nice numbers. That's in the ball park of the Gen II GTS traps speeds though its quicker at 11.3 due to dct and mid-engine layout. Wish it was as light as the C6 Z though. They need to get back to that lightweight formula. It would smoke the GT3 if it did.

Not sure if this bit of news is old or new.

The Z06 is to get a Flat Plane Crank: https://www.motortrend.com

Kind of surprising. Not sure if this is a good thing or not. Another wait and see...

    That info surfaced over the weekend. From Auto Week today;

Automobile’s intel has gathered that the C8 Corvette Z06 will feature a twin-turbo V8 engine with a flat-plane crankshaft capable of producing as much as 800 horsepower. It would not only make it the most powerful Z06 ever, but it would be the most powerful production Corvette ever, period. Currently, that title is held by the hairy-chested C7 Corvette ZR1 and its 755 horsepower LT5 supercharged V8 engine. More than anything, the C7 ZR1 demonstrated why it was important for the Corvette to move its engine location, as evident from remarks coming from just about every auto critic that had the chance to pilot one. Speculation is that there may be a manual transmission in the pipeline, as well.

As for the rumor of an all-wheel-drive hybrid Corvette with as much as 1,000 horsepower that was originally published by Car & Driver in 2018? We still believe them to be true. However, being that the 800 hp variant will be the C8 ZR1, this could mean that the hybrid hypercar could end up being called the Zora – a name that was trademarked as far back as 2014, and recently re-filed earlier this year with intention for automobile use. In other words, it would be GM’s volley towards hypercars such as the Porsche 918 or Ferrari SF90 Stradale, for a sliver of the price.

so why was it necessary to swap engine location because of C7 ZR1, what specific were there. Cant have that big power in a front engine? How come the ZR1 still couldnt beat an ACR then?

IMO the c8 is a nice car but will end up like the c7, popular at first then 'oh look another vette'. Vipers will always be head turners. Not sure how old this news is but i was talking with my Viper tech the other day and he mentioned the new Barracuda SRT has coming down the pike.

The update on the article is Dec. 2017., and we are almost into 2020 . The C8 is just at the beginning of it's platform and I suspect the LT7 will be interesting .
Hopefully FCA is taking note on all the enthusiasm ....
