    Shift Knob

    Hi Guys,

I'm sure this has been covered before. I'm looking to change my GTS's shift knob. The current one is already aftermarket but kinda cheesy looking (came with the car). I have the original but it makes the car look a bit dated (imho). I like the look of the 2004-2010 knob. Also, the ViperStore has the 'Gripper' and maybe that is the one to get, not sure.

What shift knob do you use? What would you recommend?

    Thx.

I have tried them all, and always come back to the factory 98 shift knob in my GTS. I just love the pistol like grip, I feel I am more accurate than any other knob that I have used when shifting quickly. I’m sure I may be in the minority on this though.

I put an Epco 2.25 inch shift pattern cue ball knob in my GTS. I used a long open-ended 1/2-20 lug nut with a double-ended threaded stud connecting the ball and lug nut to extend it some in order to keep leverage....shorter than the stock shifter but not too short. The "fat" end of the lug nut spun on to the shifter stud and worked perfectly to hold the shift boot up too. Looked and worked great.....broke up the interior a bit and matched the gauges, which had more of a visual effect than you'd think.

This is the one in my B/W 96

I used this to elevate the knob up, as it's the same thread pattern as the stock shifter.

Is Sneaky Pete shiny or matte? Hard to tell from the photo.

I like this basic design. My current one is a smooth ball with some grooves around the side and a chrome Sneeky Pete on top. Would like something with a black textured finish or leather. Non-chrome. Round.

Pete himself is shiny but the everything else is more matte...

I like the look of the baseball which was used on later years above. This one is available in a short throw ACR style, but it says its only for 2003-2010 models. Can anyone confirm if this knob will fit 1996-1998 GTS models?

    Viper Shift Knob 2.jpg

Another potential is this one. It looks nice and modern. I think it is similar that the shifter on the last gen Viper. Thoughts?

I don't suppose I could get a picture of what it looks like installed in your 2002?

I have a MGW First Strike shift knob that I'm not using. They are no longer being made, so they're tough to locate. $80+shipping and it's yours. PM me if you're interested.

I used a gen 3/4 ACR knob on my 1998. I'm very happy with it.

I'll get a photo and post it, but it looks just like the stock shifter, just slightly shorter.

I agree with the visual effect it has. Not only does it match the gauges, but also the white stripe on my B/W GTS. With the black shift knob I felt like it blended and got lost in the black interior. Too me the shift knob should draw your eyes to it since it's how you control the powerplant.

Agree with the comments on the stripes too! I thought the same thing when I had mine.
