    Rear Tires Hitting Fender

    Hello,

One of my 98 Vipers the rear tires are rubbing on fender if a hit a bump. I have 18" front & 19" rear.

Bought the car this way and as far as I know there is no adjustment.

    Suggestions appreciated!

    Ray

Aftermarket rims and tires? I would also bet that you have lowering springs on your shocks. Pictures? You could go back tot stock springs or SRT wheels and tires to help tuck them in a little more.

As suggested, that happens on even the newer Vipers when you go to a larger wheel/tire combo and/or lower it. It'll eventually rub a hole through the liner.

There's a price to be paid for everything, unfortunately.

Does it have wheel spacers? Pics would be super helpful. Using this site through your mobile device is much easier for uploads.

98 Viper is likely lowered somehow.... spring caps, eibachs, or even both.

Maybe even too-wide rear wheel spacers? Rubbing INNER fender, or outer?

The above would cause your intermittent issue, aside from leaking shocks... miles on car?

You say ONE rear rubbing. Drivers side? ... has extra wear due to driver weight.

    Hello,

I will take pictures with phone and see if I can figure out how to post them.

Need to pull tires and see what shocks look like. I will post more info after work.

Nope, 17/17... 18 inch wheels were first introduced in MY 99.

    Sorry for late reply!

Tried to upload pictures but not working.

It seems I have about 1 1/2 inch clearance from fender to tire. Tires stick out past fender about 1/2 inch. It also looks like I have adjust to raise or lower shock.

I plan on giving that a try after I get new radiator installed on my other 98 GTS.

    Thanks,
    Ray

Sounds like you have spacers or wheels with the wrong offset. My clearance is about an inch and a half as well, but my wheels don’t stick out past the fenders. Hopefully it’s just spacers that you can remove. Check to see if you have adjustable coilovers, that would be a bonus as well.

    Thanks Marty,

I do not have wheel spacer but it does have custom 2 piece wheels. I think the offset is in the wheels. I do have adjustable coilovers so hoping I can pick it up just a little.

I agree Mike, having the correct offset is the way to fix this.
