Well, down here in Houston, we are preparing for epic cold weather. Predictions for the next 4 days is that it might get down to 14 degrees. I have seen 28 degrees a couple of times and I have been here for about 10 years. Insulating pipes, getting ready for cold that these houses and house systems are not designed for. Up in Fort Worth, already a 100 car accident and several lives lost. Crazy stuff.

I suspect as low as 50- 100 watts is all you would need, just warm the tire on LOW setting ?!

Here is a suggestion that I used many years ago when my garage heater broke and was having to wait 2 weeks for parts.

I used 4 heating pads (animal style). The addition I used was I folded and placed a Harbor Freight Furniture pad which was folded on the floor under the tire. The heat pad was then placed on top of the furniture pad and then the car lowered onto the heat pad. (Heat pad was in direct contact with tire.). The furniture pad provided a cushion as well as insulated things so the heat stayed pretty much where it needed. I watched it really close for a day or two to make sure all was well, but then after that I forgot about it
until the heater was repaired.

I always parked my car on pads in the winter. 1st layer was old floor mats with the rubber still intact to prevent moisture creeping up. 2nd layer was just carpet remnants cut to size. I ran, and still do, a small heater that I figured cost me $1 a day. Cheaper than heated storage and since the car was always in sight on these bitterly cold days I at least could look at the car under cover and dream of warmer days to come.

Now that we have plenty of ice here heading out to catch some perch and walleye!

Predictions now in Houston, up to 4 inches of snow. Down to 10 degrees. Coldest it has been since the 80's.......

People running around getting essentials today. Radio stations essentially stating that city will be shut down Monday and Tuesday. Electric utilities predicting record amounts of power usage. Lines at propane centers this am were 40 people deep. Next Weekend...in the 70's.

Here is an interesting website for you all.

Right now, Texas is already in the reserves for electricity and it is only 7pm tonight. The temperature is supposed to go down another TEN degrees tonight. They are asking people to conserve, but it is not working. It will be the coldest since 1989.

On the Texas map, you will see dark red with one spot of yellow. The one spot of yellow is the Thompkins power plant that all of the bunny huggers want to shut down. It is one of the top ten largest plants in the nation. Without that plant, Texas would be without power now. The wind mills have frozen up......there is no solar. Nuke and coal are keeping everyone alive right now. Topping units, such as natural gas help, but the gas is hard to come by.

How would everyone get on Yelp, Reddit or Facebook without carbon based fuels? Oh the horror.....

It is actually funny when you think of it......it is NOT ok to drive a car with gasoline, but it IS ok to heat your home with natural gas.

My best hopes to all in Texas that are going through hell now. "Rolling" blackouts that are not "rolling". Millions without heat. Untold hundreds that will die from fires and carbon monoxide. Worse than Harvey? Perhaps. People did not expect this. It was an uppercut that hit us right on the chin. The amount of litigation for reverse condemnation because of who had power left on and who had power shut off is going to be epic. And the stupidity of it all. Companies in the center of town, with no people, were fed electricity, while the areas where people lived (rich and poor) were left out in the cold. This is not a case of the rich getting power and the poor getting screwed. Even the heads of the companies in their posh neighborhoods are still out of power, while unessential areas are still powered.

The amount of screw up here can't be understated. But hey.....it is Texas and a red state....so nobody cares.
