    Windshield Protective Film Clear Plex

Since our windshields are at high risk on virtually every outing, has anyone tried this stuff? If so, what is your assessment of its effectiveness and visual characteristics?

I had Exoshield installed about a year and a half ago. I cannot notice that it is on the windshield at all and it still looks perfect today. Then again, I'm also in Canada where the car is parked for the winter 6 months of the year!
Regarding how difficult it is to get ahold of a windshield I figured it was worth a try.

sounds like a good product. I'm thinking of trying it but they don't have a pre cut kit for Viper.

Thanks for the responses. I'll look into these products further. looks like I'll have to cut it to fit, though. This could give me just a little more peace of mind while driving these crumbling roads littered with all manner of debris. If you can get a windshield from Parts Rack, how much are they going for at this point?

I think $800-ish but you'd have to contact them.

I have some protective film on my windshield, $60 installed from my "wrap shop". I've had rocks flung from tires from the vehicle in front of me hit the film/windshield, not dings in the glass, the film does its job.

What kind of film is it? Are there different brands?

So they based their pricing on avoidance costs and not manufacturing costs. Very smart marketing.

I don't know, it's not the regular pliable stuff they put over paint, it's a more solid plastic they heat to the shape of the windshield.

sounds like a durable product. I'll have to check into it. Is there any distortion of the view?

No distortion, I forget it’s there until something bounces off it.

Well according to the Clear Plex installer it doesn't work on Vipers because the windshield is too curved. So either he doesn't know how to do it or he wants to sell me a more expensive option.

Here's his reply: Clearplex film cannot be applied on Viper's windshield due to the windshield's curvature.
There is a new product that's coming to the market. It performs the same way, and it can be molded to the Viper's windshield.
I'll keep you updated when I get my hands on it.

Wait, your car is a gen III? Mine is a gen II. Maybe my windshield is more curved than yours? I've heard installers complain about the way my windshield curves backward on the sides more than most other cars.

I have clearplex installed on my Gen5 Viper. I did it to protect from chips during track days. I believe it has helped. The installer in Denver does state that it is more difficult on a Viper than other cars, but he does it anyway. I have seen a small crease in the material secondary to the shape of the window, but it is out of line of vision, and not a problem.

I have full glass coverage with my insurance.

Would that not cover a new windshield? Are they that hard to come by?

Not really hard to come by. You can also get OEM glass. For me it was a hassle factor. Went to the track a week before Viper rendezvous and had a rock chip develop into a crack. Was a hassle to get it replaced prior to Viper Rendezvous. By the end of the weekend, I had three chips and one more crack starting. Since then I put the clear Plex on the windshield. I’ve tracked the car all last year without any cracks. You could see where there are a few dings in the clear Plex. I think it helps.

So my search has so far proved unsuccessful. Why is it so hard to find around here? I've called 3 places that do window tint and vinyl wrap and nobody does them and the one guy told me to wait for a new product. I know there has to be lots of windshield chips here because we are the king of pot holes land.
