PPF or Boomerang Guards for sils

Hey all, looking into the Doug Shelby boomerang guards to protect against rock kick up. Anyone have suggestions or preference of the guards or PPF instead? Just want to hear from people who have them before I make a decision. Thanks

Imo the guard is better. Some had to reapply the ppf due to heat issues down by the cat area.

Thanks! I just did the hf cat install, so they aren’t as hot. But I was leaning toward the guards. Any particular one that’s superior than the others?

The PPF will not protect the wheelwell lip.

Most installers do not wrap the PPF over and inside of the front section of the door sill near the front wheels. PPF has saved me from several off-track events that would otherwise require a repaint of the sill. I used both the guard and PPF on the TA and regret not doing the same on the ACR, where it's only PPF.
On the ACR, my PPF installer recently wrapped the front edge with carbon printed PPF to hide the chips, but there wasn't much he could do with lower front edge, where the paint has already chipped.

    1. The lip of the fender well.

    2. The high impact area at the front of the sill.

    3. Deflects debris from a broader area to the rear of the guard.

Within 7500 miles (my car) the lips and the front of the sills had serious/visible damage.

Key is to find a good installer...I recently had my car completely wrapped with Xpel PPF. I made sure the installer wrapped over and covered the inside of the wells. Just about all edges over the whole car actually.

How much did that cost you? Curious.

I have the Doug Shelby guards and have been very pleased with them. They protect the most exposed areas from chips and actually keep the sills cleaner. PPF can yellow from the heat and looks unsightly especially on a white car like mine.

6k for the whole car...well worth it IMO. I discussed wrapping the edges prior to the work so we were clear. Shines the same with the PPF.

Curious how long ago was that? In my area the prices have sky rocketed, now it's closer to 7k-8k to wrap the entire car.

I had it done in March of this year. He gave me a better deal since it was early and still cold in MI. Otherwise price does go up and he was booked for 3 months out.

Prior owner put these on which are similar to the boomerangs. They look to be double sided taped on and at first I disliked them but with the CF spoiler and the rear air ducts being CF they 'kinda match'. Though not real CF they seem to have done the job of protecting the panel behind. Apologies for the orientation. Not sure why they are 90 degrees off.

This is the only picture i have of the rock guards, you can see the rear ones. They mount to existing holes around the wheel well. Im sure he has pictures on his pages.

I had the side skirts repainted on my 2017 GTS due to the annoying Rock chips.
After the repaint i did the Rock guards from Doug shelby and had the entire car wrapped in matte PPF.

i have ppf and i installed the guards as well and love them. it's a pretty simple install, but wanted to mention, for the front guards you are required to drill a small hole in the wheel well. Someone on here used velcro instead. maybe another option for you if you don't want to go that route.
