Apex Lethal 750 2001 GTS on Bring a Trailer

I'd never heard of Apex before, I googled it. Looks like they were doing 9 liter strokers back in the early 2000's, pretty cool
Could be a cool car for somebody, this could end up going for a good deal since most don't know what it is and the seats are ugly (IMO). Swap in some stock seats or aftermarket buckets and you've got a fun street/track car

Will be interesting to see where this one ends up. The buyers on BAT seem to be looking for bone stock cars. I don't think this will bring '01 ACR $$'s.

    We'll see??

I don't either. If it was a modern Prefix 9 liter build, that would be another story.

Not to worry - rumor has it a nice ACR is working its way thru the BaT bureaucracy and backlog.

Oh, whatever the final sale price is - it would be $3-4,000 more with the BBS rims

LOL, people are on there already asking for the MPG's. And they are being serious. This is why I won't sell on BAT, I'd rather sell it quick and cheap then deal with those guys. lol

I remember a year or two ago Viper Exchange had a final edition, ACR (red/white) with 1K miles for like $80K and took forever to sell. That's probably a $200K car now. That is the holy grail of Gen 2's imo.

    I think the Holy Grail G2 is a '98 GTSR, then #2 FE ACR, #3 '99 Silver/Blue ACR

1998 GT2 Champion Edition? I still have the burn marks from the Grailkeeper when I said GTSR. But, in the end, it caused me to be curious and found out some interesting stuff

I looked and saw where they mentioned it was a billet stroker crankshaft, but i did not see any mention of the actual bore and stroke. It is very hard to get a gen 2 to 9L, there have been some attempts at stroker setups but nothing substantial. Also no way are you going to get those kind of power numbers NA with the gen 2 heads and intake. They must have a special dyno.

Man that car brings back a lot of memories. Back in the TNT and Hennessey days.

Looked into purchasing this car about 10 years ago. Car had some idle issues along with the CEL on. There was also some electrical issues with the lights and sound system. After passing on the Viper I spoke with one of the past owners of the car who informed that the engine went through a qt of oil every couple hundred miles.

Looks like in the car and driver article they have posted about the car it trapped 124mph @ 11.8 when new.. This seems to support your suspicion as if I recall correctly is about the same as a stock Gen V trap speed?

A well driven stock Gen 5 should trap well into the upper 120s in the quarter mile. Tony (NineBall) drove one stock Gen 5 to a 134 trap speed (no e.t. given), but I'd consider that an outlier.

Either way, that Apex setup never made the claimed power if that's all it was able to trap. My mild bolt-on Gen 4 has trapped 126 at worst, with a best of 130 in average weather, and I'm not the best driver.

Back in the mid 2000's it was for sale in the Bay Area from the owner who had Apex do the work. I went and took a look at it intending to buy. It didn't seem much faster than my 98 GT2 that had headers, catback and tune. It ran kinda rough and stumbled. The tune was definitely off then. To me it looked like it had been beaten on pretty hard too, so I passed on purchase. I do like the front facia. Hopefully its better sorted for the new owner.

My 96 GTS dynod 421 on a Saturday with the same airbox as above, rear muffler delete on OE tires and wheels. The next day at the V-10 Nats, I ran 3 back to back solid 11.90s at 123-125 mph.

Take into consideration many of the car magazine performance numbers are from a non prepared surface and without rollout. Good for comparison car to car but not to drag strip results.

Didn't roll out only become a thing in the last few years? I remember there often being two metrics. Standing 0-60 and then a rollout or from 5 mph or something.

It's like trying to compare HP rating from the 60's. Different ways of measurement, that's for sure.

I believe so. The newer roll-out testing is meant to sort of level the playing field against those cars with advanced launch control systems (a lot of Porsche cars, for example). I was reading an article about it recently, but can't seem to find it now.

I went 11.65 @ 123 with bolt ons and 455 rwhp. If that car is only that fast then it’s power is severely overrated.
