2021 Viper Days Reunion Road America recap and track video

First off, thanks again to Bob Woodhouse, Skip, Cheryl, Russ, Bob Strickland, Steve Ferguson and everyone else involved for their months of hard work to get this event to work! Thanks to Eddie Martin for taking the time to tech everyone's car and keep everyone safe on track. And very special thanks to Jon B for running the grid. That job is no joke, he was in the sun for days, busting his ass trying to keep everything in order which is extremely important when you're sharing the track and grid with World Challenge teams. Thanks to my beautiful wife for all her help, my mechanic Tony and Scot from Prefix who helped me fix a serious engine issue. It was great to meet everyone, the event goes by so fast it was hard to find and talk to everyone I wanted to meet.

We drove from Arizona, took three full days each way, travelling through 8 states! Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and Wisconsin!

I was lucky enough to do the practice day on Wednesday and got in a good 20 laps or so before it got hot. The Friday sessions were crazy, TT and Race combined so no way to get a fast lap, so only did the morning session, same with Saturday the fast cars caught the slower ones on our first hot lap! (Tony from UMS Tuning and Global Time Attack) heard my car was missing a cylinder, he popped of the valve cover and saw a pushrod had come out. I thought the weekend was over. He found it was from a broken bolt on the bridge that holds the rockers down. Scot Rickord from Prefix had one handy and also ran to the store to buy some tools. The car was up and running within an hour, thanks guys!!!

After slow times all weekend due to traffic, I planned with the faster guys to go out and go extremely slow on the entire out lap to bunch up the cars so the faster guys could get at least one full lap before catching traffic and it worked (I was running 2.19 to 2.21) I ended up running a 2.12.65 fastest in TT by over 6 seconds. Ben Keating ran an amazing 2.04 in race group and Bob Woodhouse ripped a 2.14 in one session and Michael Merrick ripped a 2.14 as well in his fully caged, sequential badass Gen 5 ACR. This guy is going to be tough to beat if he can get his car as light as mine.

What an animal your car is - and you can hustle it like a boss! You're pulling my Gen2 by 25-35mph on the straights towing all that aero!

Total Bad Ass, car and driver..! Congrats and Thanks for sharing.

Is it just the pic or does Ben K's car have some serious negative camber in the rear?

Thanks for coming to say hi Dean, was very nice to meet you! I was only hitting 171mph, I thought I was going to hit around 177, but my wing was on #3 to give me more confidence through the kink etc. I saw there was a comp coupe there hitting 176. I'm assuming the CC's must have much less drag?

You should see it in person, how wide it is. The front tires seemed to be about 10" out from where mine are, the rears even more. Where my tires end on the outside, his just began. LOL I think that's where a lot of the lap time comes from versus a street car.

Dang AZ, i thought for sure your car would be closer to a GT3 racecar, thats what Ben Keating’s car is right? Is it a GT3 spec or a GTLM level car?

The GT3 cars there that weekend were all around 2.09, Huracan's etc. What's weird to me is our top speeds are about the same, around 171mph and they have 200 less horsepower. I guess because they are lighter and less drag, and no way can a street car ever corner like a factory race car. Anyone know what lateral G's those cars pull? My car pulls 1.9G's at the limit. The only way that could go up is by using a different chassis or taking off weight, which I don't have much more left.
Woulda been cool if I got Ben to do a few laps in my car, then we'd know! If there's one next year I'll ask him!

Cable, thanks for the write-up, the pix, the kind words, and for letting me drive a lap.
    Around the paddock.
    In your monster-golf-cart!
I needed it badly. [My cell phone + blisters say I ran 17+ miles on foot Wed-Sun.]

Thanks to Wayne Rauh for the loan of their ACR-E Pace Car shown above !

Thanks to SRO-World Challenge for having me pace a couple of THEIR events in the Super-Supra from Skip Barber. BMW In Disguise.

And thanks to Ship Thomas for having the vision to create a safe Viper learning [and then racing] environment from 1995. Few people realize that if it were not for Viper Days/VRL, there would not likely BE any Comp Coupes! VRL became Viper Cup, and the ACR-X was born. These race cars all share Skip Thomas' DNA........
    [ I was there to pace Race # 1 at Gingerman. ]

Great fun to meet so many customers, revisit old racer friends, even if I was too busy to share much time. Thank You All.

Great running with you Cable. I don't recall being a speed bump for you during the weekend despite the huge different in lap times. That means I got lucky with gridding. Awesome car and awesome driving.
