Blue White 1997 GTS on Bring a Trailer with 2500 Miles

Going to be keeping a close eye on this one, as I personally just picked up almost an identical car, but mine is one owner and 2800 miles:

Hood insulation pad is pretty torn up. That's about the worst I see from the limited photo set.

Are you planning on flipping yours? Not sure why you are keeping an eye on it if you all ready bought one?

Bought it as an investment piece honestly, no plans to sell for a long time..but genuinely curious to see what BAT values the car at. Like keeping an eye on a stock you’ve invested in, but the stock has four wheels and white stripes haha.

I just picked up a low mile 96. Now or never for the iconic B/W’s.

Agreed! Still a bargain IMO compared to where they’ll be 5-10 years down the line.

I looked at this Viper when it was being sold by the original owner. The car was stored away in a old unused horse barn where it sat sunk into the frozen mud. At the time it was the most neglected and abused Viper that I ever seen. The mouse eaten hood pad was one of the better looking parts on the car.

That car has more rust on it than a sunken platform rig. But it still won't stop someone from overpaying thinking that cars are good investments lol.

Your comments are spot on. The car at the time I looked at it only had around 1K miles on it. Even with the low mileage the rust and corrosion on the Viper was unreal. The gas door had so much corrosion on the hinge that I was worried about it snapping while trying to open it. The exterior of the Viper was covered in dirt and dried up horse manure dust. The engine bay had mouse droppings all over. There were several mice nest's built under the intake manifold runners. There were signs of more nests up under the windshield cowl. The interior was a total disaster with mice droppings on the carpets from the rear hatch area all the way to the font floor area. There looked like more nests around the rear hatch area near the amp. Looked like more nests up under the driver side dash. The dash would have to be removed to see how much of the wiring was chewed on. The car had no floor mats so the front carpets were covered in dried out mud. If you zoom in on the three peddles you can still see the caked in mud on the pads and carpet.

Yes you can! I am surprised that they did not clean them out.

Seller claiming no evidence of mice and that car is all it is presented to be. Stayed it was collector owned in a climate controlled garage. You sure you looked at this car?

Seller contradicts himself , first states possibility of mice then back peddles.

This is the same Viper that I looked at. I still have the vin# along with the original owners name and address. Carfax shows the present seller as only owning the Viper a very short time. Seller also states he purchased the car from a collector that had owned the Viper since 2010. Who owned the car before 2010 and where was it stored? If you are a serious bidder you need to view and zoom in on all of the posted pics on the auction site. After viewing you need to ask yourself how is it possible that such a climate stored low mileage Viper have so much rust, dirt and corrosion on it?

Given all the comments here, this car seemed to sell for a pretty fair price compared to some of the other "low mileage" 96 GTS sales.

[ ] was a good long term investment

[X] was not a good long term investment

    That's like 0.6% interest/return for 25 years straight. Ouch.

That would be correct if the seller was the original owner - which he is not. He is actually the 4th owner. We don't know what he paid for it but he just recently purchased it so knowing the facts, the correct questions are:

[ ] was a good SHORT term investment

[ ] was not a good SHORT term investment

But hey, who really cares what the facts are? In today's world facts are whatever you want them to be.

Buyer got a great deal on a nice low mile B/W. Whatever mice may have been there, looks like the car cleaned up well. Shouldn’t have been sold at no reserve. I think seller shortchanged himself.

Wonder if BAT charges different/higher fees on Reserve vs No Reserve auctions.
