WARNING SUPPLY vs DEMAND No its DEMAND but NO SUPPLY

Automotive 'things' are getting to be in very thin supply. USA tire / wheel warehouses tell me that they have about 40-50% of tires-wheels-lugnuts etc that they usually carried the last 3 years at this winter time. Snow tires will land in March. MoPar back-orders rule. Mopar deliveries take 2-3 times longer than historically.

If you NEED or WANT something for your Viper, (Or Ram, etc) it will be easier to find a Barbie Doll on Christmas Eve than to find many of the popular or in-demand consumables that your auto or truck will need. Especially for rare-vehicles. Weird sizes.

And: We have received 5-6 price increase announcements in past 45 days. Prices are rising, and quickly.

If you can Find it? Buy It. Procrastinate = Fail. NOW is worse than 2020.

Excuses that wont work any longer:

    Gotta check with the wife.
My tires should last til Spring.
Internet sellers SAY they have them, and cheaper.
Internet sellers SAY it will fit. I can always return it.
Ill wait for a Black Friday Sale.
Ill check Flea-Bay for used. Seller says it fits.
Ill shop around and letcha know.

    Vaccinate or Vegetate.

    Shop at Tirerack?

I just checked all of the winter tire sizes I usually buy and they're all available.

Viper rear tires are available; the only tire size I can't find on tirerack is for my Countach - 345/35/15 - but those are always limited runs anyways.

I was on the fence about upgrading my daily driver and I decided to do it now before used cars go up another 25%.

What a dumpster fire of an economy.

I bought four cars in the last two years and just made it in under the wire before all this pricing insanity started. (Got lucky!) Still got an Escalade I wanted to sell, and buy a pickup....have you seen the prices of trucks?!?!? No way. Escalade makes a good tow vehicle anyway, but it would be nice to have a bed.

So let get back to basic questions, Is the supply issue because the products are made outside of the USA, mainly China?

I think there are a lot of reasons, from factories being shut down because someone was sick and taking a week or more to restart to the US Congress paying people a lot of money to quit working (thankfully that's stopped for now) so truck drivers are in short supply as well as so many other types of workers.

So, was the whole thing started in China, maybe so, but seems like most gov'ts used it for their own means as well... and that seems to be continuing to varying degrees around the world...

USA made stuff is killing me right now. Our air tank manufacturer in Indiana is now at a five month lead time. Used to be six weeks or so. Even if the steel is made and sourced in the USA, there are many other components that go into an air tank such as powder coating or internal rust proofing chemicals. If any of them has an issue in the supply chain, you end up with delays. And if the robotic equipment that welds the tanks breaks down and the part is only available from the manufacturer in Germany but they are back logged, now you have more delays. Add in transportation delays in getting raw materials and it becomes a giant domino effect.

My prices are now 30% higher than they were 6 months ago.....just an added kick to the nuts to remind me that it is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. I kind of miss 2020.

This has a lot of good detail what has happened:

    https://nationworldnews.com/from-pai...ces-on-fire-2/

One of the biggest take-aways from the story is:

The crux of the problem has become a familiar one in the 18 months since the pandemic ignited a brief but brutal recession: As the economy plunged into near-paralysis, petrochemical producers, like manufacturers of all kinds, slashed production. So they were caught flat-footed when the unexpected happened: The economy quickly bounced back, and consumers, flush with cash from government relief aid and thrift reserves, began spending with astonishing speed and vigor.
