Terrible news to see.. im wondering if aged out tires played a role. seems like turbo lag was an issue also.

Ugh! That is a downer.![]()
Sounds like a downshift and on the throttle just as he goes out of sight.

Damage might not be that bad, Mid engine car, front took impact so not a write off.
I saw a broken down F40 just recently on my way to Le mans in the Viper, I did the right thing, sounded the horn a couple of times dropped the Viper into 3rd about 80mph and booted it and gave a wave out the window![]()

Well at least that guy will still be able to get parts and fix his car......

Yeah turbo lag - it was definitely The Thing in the 80's. Senna was perhaps the very best at managing it with his rapid throttle stabbing technique. It helped keep the turbos spooled up better than the other drivers.
That damage doesn't appear terribly bad to either the car, or the Armco rail element. It hit between the posts and the rail largely sprung back to its pre-crash configuration.
That recovery rig was really well outfitted so as not to increase the overall damage to the car. Most wrecker companies I've seen can do more damage to the vehicle than the crash.

96 GTS. Viper Days Modified Class. Fresh motor 10-2020!
As long as the serial number is still there it will be worth just as much as it was before the wreck once it is repaired. F40's are highly sought after by F-car collectors and a small blemish on the Carfax report isn't going to stop them from wanting it. There are just so few to be had and a Ferrari collection is not complete without one.
There are still lots of parts out there for the F40s and several shops in the U.S. that can handle the work without going to the Ferrari factory. And this kind of work could be done without anything showing up on a Carfax report too
