Weird Regulator Issue after installing reinforcement

Passenger window regulator is having issues (2014). I installed DSE window bosses and the metal reinforcement kit this winter to try and protect the white tubing (it was fine before that - purely preventative). Afterward it seemed to be fine all spring. Then suddenly yesterday after closing the passenger door, at the top, I’m getting a grinding like the gear in the regulator is skipping. Also, window only goes up when the door is closed, motor won’t even click/try to go up if the door is open (going down works fine).
    Any thoughts?

Is this just a toasted regulator?

Yup. Regulator needs replaced by the sound of it. Did you do the window relearn or anything after the work you performed?

One of our members installed the kit from The Viper Store
...had to perform adjustment as drive gears were barely engaging as I recall.

I did try to do the window relearn afterward yes.

I noticed after I was done that the window seemed a bit tight for that last 1/4 inch of closing. Clearance was fine, but it didn't slide up quite as much as the driver side. Not sure if the window sat a bit higher and had more resistance at the top so it couldn't travel as far but it seemed like that might have been happening.

Steve-Indy - and sense for what kind of adjustment?

Sorry, I really do not recall. I sent a link to this thread to him, and ask if he could offer suggestions.

I had this same thing when I “proactively” did this to both doors in the Gen4 I had. Upon investigation I didn’t like the shallow gear mesh to the screw in the regulator as the metal laser cut split changed the OEM engagement.

What I did was basically cut the flat plate portion of the Viperstore Split out between the regulator and motor, so it allowed the gear to mesh deeper.

What you’re hearing is the motor gear teeth skip the spring under torque because they are less engaged.

Hard to explain via text, but after I did this I had zero issues.

Thanks, a million, DARKNHT !! There's no way that I could correctly articulate your solution.

Got it DARKNHT - so you just have to two arms essentially taped on , but the center section is removed - correct?

Thanks so much - I can give that a try

    Yes that’s correct.

It went away for me after that, I think the resistance near the top and the lack of gear engagement/mesh just makes it jump the screw in the track.

    Good luck

Alright - I just cut that section out of my reinforcement piece and it's working without noise!

    THANK YOU DARKNHT!!!

For anyone else for reference in the future - this whole piece of the reinforcement kit acts as a thin spacer between the motor gear and the screw which goes through the tube. As DARKNHT said, it created just enough space/slop between the screw and the motor gear that when combined with the resistance the window gets at the very top, it was skipping. By removing it, I seem to have solid engagement again and it's no longer skipping.

I just install a washer/spacer behind the gear to push it closer to the worm to take up the width created by the thickness of the stainless bracing.
