Hi everyone! I’m working with the VOA from New Orleans on the big NVE2 coming up in May! We’re so excited to welcome everyone to our amazing city, and we encourage the attendees to explore and experience the best we have to offer. New Orleans is a VERY unique place with a culture like nowhere else. We do things a little differently down here, so I’ll be posting some of the fun and quirky facts about our city to this thread so you can arrive with some insider-intel. Feel free to respond with any questions at any point. –Sally

      Neutral Ground

Anywhere else, it would probably be called a median, but because New Orleans does most things differently, the stretch of land that divides two sides of the street in New Orleans is called the neutral ground. The neutral ground was originally named for the meeting space on Canal Street where the once contentious French and English could peacefully coexist and do business. The neutral ground is also where you’ll find the streetcar rolling down. Watch this hilarious video of local celebrities trying to explain the neutral ground.

      Go-Cups

New Orleans is one of the few places where you can enjoy strolling down the street with a cocktail in hand, adding to its leisurely lifestyle and charm. Every bar is stocked with “go-cups”, so feel free to ask for your cocktail or beer to go.
