Sorry no photos but it’s a 1 for 1 swap. The reservoir under the hood, driver side near the shock tower along the apron just in front of the brake master and the fuse box. Use the turkey baster to draw out any fluid, as much as you can get out. Then pour in new fluid. It only replaces what’s in the reservoir. The new fluid will circulate through the clutch system once you pump the clutch and/or drive it. Repeat the process until the fluid looks clean and clear as new.

I have read this process in the past on the Viper forums, pretty much as mentioned above: Suck out all of the contaminated fluid from the reservoir and fill to the fill line with new fluid. Pump the clutch pedal 20-30 times. Check the fluid. If it is clear, then you are done. Check it again after driving a while. If not clear, suck out the dirty stuff again and refill. Repeat the process until it is clear.

The guys willing to get under the car would recommend bleeding the system; but, that is a bit of a hassle.

I’m am not sure just how well this fluid will “circulate through the clutch system” but it will gradually mix and partially dilute the old fluid through a to and fro motion. Given your car’s age…and the fact that slave cylinders do go out (often without warning), you might want to have someone walk you through the clutch bleeding process. Getting rid of the old fluid is easy…often with no mess. Air can be more tedious. Call if you like.

I was able to use the bleeder screw on my GEN II and it worked like a charm. I woukd suggest investing in a Mityvac hand held pump for brakes and clutches. It will come with an adapter that eill fit inside the bleeder valve. Open up the clutch fluid reservior and oull out rubber boot, get under the car and push the adapter into the bleeder valve, crack the bleeder valve open with a wrench and start pumping out the fluid. Younwill suck out about 1 1/2 in of fluid before you shoukd stop. Top off the fluid and repeat process until the fluid you are pulling out is clear.

One thing to watch for…thebleeder valver on my GEN IV appeared to be cloged. I had to do the turkey baster method for it. I did this over time. About three times over the course of a month or so i would suck the fluid out and then refill.

I had my tech Eddie Martin do a full fluid change last Christmas. As I inderstand it though, doing a refresh is a good idea here and there in between full swaps. I will leave the full swaps to him. Before NVE I will have a fluid change done and change all pertinent fluids. But as I understand it, it’s not a bad thing to do in between changes. I got some PMs from people offering to explain it over the phone too so I think I should be set. Latamud’s description makes sense and is pretty much what I thought.

Thanks all! It really is appreciated.

Can someone help me with an explaination of how to do the “turkey baster refresh” on clutch fluid? It would be very appreciated.

If someone posted a how to with photos, which I know is a bit of work for sure, I would be glad to thank you with a gift card or something like that. If you enjoyed the owner profile about me and want to do me a favor that would be awesome. Or perhaps one of the people I have helped out over the years by sending something for free is able to repay the favor.

As I said, it would be very appreciated. At the very least I will get you a drink at NVE.

      Thank you.
