So much depends on how long and heavily you load the tires, and whether the course is CW, or CCW. Also, what your overall skill level is.

Hey Dean thanks for the prompt response! I noticed you had given a lot of info on the same topic on other forums as well and that you do your own alignments, recommend adjusting rear cam bolts with the wheels lifted, etc. As for CW or CCW I’m not that hardcore into track events at this time that I would be setting it up for specific directions. Just want to set the car up with a moderate setup and neutral setup to get me going for now. Skill level is still relatively novice but I have been to multiple track days in the past with various cars and have raced multiple forms of motorsport including go-karts my whole life.

You are right there in SoCal, so get ahold of Dan Cragin –he is in your backyard and has definitely done more setups on Vipers than anyone else on the West Coast — starting clear back with Gen 1s and Gen IIs

Yeah might end up taking it there but want to try it myself first.

Dean what do you use to measure rear caster? I heard that one is pretty hard to measure even for most alignment shops…

If not able to acquire the Viper Service Tools, I suggest lifting the back tires clear of the rack. Loosen the adjuster cams and use a 19mm or 3/4″ to center the cams in the slots. Then rotate BOTH in time to move the wishbone outward a bit. Tighten and check camber. Repeat until you hit the desired setting, then set the toe and you are good. This should give you approximately 1 deg. of caster.

What size tires are you running?

I ended up getting the car professionally aligned by a Viper specialist. Running the Toyo R888 275 front 335 rear. Handles amazing now!

What kind of alignment did you get (compared to factory specs)? Can you describe the difference? I might get an alignment, too. I heard that there’s quite some room for improvement over the factory settings, which seem to focus more on minimizing tire wear rather than on handling and stability…!?

Looking to see what alignment settings I should setup my car with. Debating bringing it to a shop or purchasing the tools and tackling it myself. This is mainly a weekend fun car and will also be hitting several track events a year once I get it all setup!

      Here are the specs:
      – 2000 GTS ACR
      – BC Racing Coilovers with 12k front and 14k rear springs
      – Energy Suspension Polyurethane control arm bushings on all 4 corners
      – Stock 18″ ACR wheels
      – Fresh set of Toyo R888s

I researched a bunch and found discrepancies mainly on the desired toe settings. Also how fast will the tires burn up taking the front shims out or is it worth taking them out for more camber?
