That is beyond cheap , and I would suggest you join SCCA in your area and make sure you make it to their HPDE ( High Performance Driving Events). With a private rental , at many tracks , folks quickly decide against it, as it can range well over $500 each for only 20 folks at many of the less expensive tracks – and that is often for one day.

SCCA and NASA , get more folks at their events, are repeat customers to many tracks , and therefore can often get better rates. Frankly, folks often think they will get more track time renting themselves , but then find out that two days of 4-5 sessions is more than enough , and a lot more tiring than expected?

      http://www.nasaproracing.com

Many of us are members of both organizations and often the Instruction received at their events is worth the price of admission. Good luck and have fun with your Snake , and pick as many brains as you can with your fellow track rats , since it is common for folks to be quite helpful and to give you little tricks for each track you go to – or surprises or areas you want to be extra careful.

I prefer NASA to SCCA but you can’t go wrong getting involved with either group!

A couple of other low cost groups to check out that might reach toward your neck of the woods:
      Auto Interests
      Grid Life
      Carfest
      MVP Track time

I also prefer NASA for track time, but SCCA is much better for Autocrossing, imho. So check around and frankly if you can get track time for 125 bucks, that is great with almost any group.

Word. I agree for the most part. In Ohio there is a NASA group that out performs almost all of the SCCA chapters. But I’m sure it’s region specific.

PLEASE AUTOCROSS YOUR VIPER! It’s like a gift to people to see them out being pushed. I’ve been doing this for about 4 years and until I bought mine last year I didn’t see any.

I enjoy our NASA group as it is easier to get folks in for instruction and track time , and the ability to move up to Time Trials. The actual Road Racing portion is equal for both groups, in quality and competitiveness in our area, but we have the Solo Nationals 60 miles down the road in Lincoln , Nebraska , and frankly I don’t think anyone in the US can touch the advantage and site that we ( in the Midwest) have for Autocrossing.

Pretty much , NASA and SCCA have stronger Regions in various parts of the Country, but both are good resources for track fun, as well as Autocrossing. Having been a member of both for a very long time , I find each has it’s strengths and I recommend folks look into both as you pointed out, some Regions are stronger with one group than the other.

Bill do you go to the Nats? I would love to check out Lincoln but I’m going to check out the CAM Nats in Indiana this August. If I get a rig some day I would like to check out Lincoln.

I haven’t done squat for about a year as I was without a track car, but likely will run Nationals with my son in his EVO 9. Finally have another machine to run Time Trials with , but it is not even broke in , let alone set up, but that will be strictly with NASA when ready.

Agree with you that folks should try both , as the Viper is fun to both Autocross and spend time on the track!!

This week, I cancelled SCCA membership and comp license I held with them since 2010 after

      1. Fighting with them to keep my private info away from for-profit marketing, for months. Basically, you can’t.
      2. Trying to find out how my membership and licensing money are spent, and hitting the wall.
      3. Dealing with all kinds of BS behaviors in the paddock.

Join at your own risk. Consider other options.

I just joined SCCA this year. So far so good. If you have not been on a track and want to check your local track out check out Track night in American. Less then $150.00 gets you 3 20 minutes sessions. You get to meet a ton of people and learn a lot about tracking your car from people who do it and are in different run groups. Check them out

I can’t stand the SCCA. Especially for a region event. Try winning a race then someone protests you, they begin to want to do a tear down. I ask do they put back together. No….”Hey that’s ok the other guy can have the trophy”…Must mean a lot. Also in my area for SCCA regional weekends if you don’t take off work on Wednesday to sit in line you never get a spot…So actually i would loose 3 days of work so I could run….NASA is it for me…

Anybody here get involved with SCCA? I just found out that they have a New England region that is juggling between Palmer Motorsports Park in Palmer, MA and Thompson Speedway in Thompson, CT. I’ve been out to Palmer before just to check it out but last night was the first time I’ve actually gone around the track. Unfortunately I did not know about this in advance so I wasn’t signed up to race so the few laps I did were extremely slow behind a pace car. I do have to say that the top portion of this track is pretty intense and I cannot wait to get back out there with a bit more speed. I spoke to a man named Greg from SCCA, he advised me that this was only $125 for the day, which I thought was extremely cheap! Last night was their 4th event for the New England region and they have 10 more to go.

Ultimately I would prefer to have the track as a private rental but it seems that it would take at least 20-25 people to make it somewhat cost effective. If anyone has any info or interest I would love to hear your feedback.
