Monoballs should have no perceptible movement (slop). Time to Change. I would change them at this point but I would replace both on a control arm not just one.

TX, reach out to Dan Cragin at SPT, he has a lot of experience with mono-ball set ups and can get you what you really need reasonably

Thanks. Dan has been great help to me with other areas of the car.

Appreciate the advice. I’ll do them both. The front driver side seems to have taken extra wear. Wheel bearing and ball joint both went out on there already. Not surprising that the control arm bushings would take a hit also.

Dan is great (has done lots for my car) but if you want to get back to the one who put that car together, can contact Erik Messley at EMI.
I knew a previous owner of the car. Does it still have the Caldwell motor?

Thanks. The previous owner had Jim Justice rebuild the motor due to some issues. That rebuild was to be close to what Caldwell had done, but Jim didn’t fully remember the details. It is holding up well from the last rebuild that was done. (Knock on wood). However, it did dyno low (440RWHP) relative to previous runs that were done on the Caldwell build. That may be a tune which is on my list to work with Dan on once I get all the suspension items worked out.

make sure it is not the upper joint (between the spindle and upper CA). that one is likely to wear first, before race-quality monoball joint does.

In diagnosing a clunk, I found some small movement in my upper front control arm. It’s very small, I’d say 1/32″ or so. I need to put some serious back/forth action on the wheel on the lift to notice it. The control arms move freely up/down with no perceivable noise or friction. The car has monoball bushings on all the control arms, installed around 2002. It is Paul Mumford’s old 2001 ACR, so it has seen a lot of track time. I don’t have experience with monoball bushings. Is there a level of normal tolerance for front/back play in the control arm bushings or is this an indication of wear? Given the cost of new monoball bushings, I’d like to avoid replacing if it is normal.
