Rebuild should definitely cost less, but a newer turbo would likely be easier to deal with, have better tech, quicker/easier to have rebuilt, etc.

Maybe reach out to Precision; they’re in NW Indiana. They also sell turbos that would definitely work for ~$7-800.

I was quoted $400 for the rebuild. Not terrible. The whole rig was only $3k so I am trying to make it mechanically sound on the low.

Go Bigger! Put some power to that rig, it can handle it 😉
Hope you are doing well buddy.

With a new turbo only being twice the price of a rebuild… I’d most likely opt for a new turbo. I understand wanting to keep repair costs down, but a turbocharger can make a world of difference. Not to mention a new turbo has a lot to offer.

      That’s just me though.

Hahaha I can already picture the head flying apart trying to build boost at 5k rpm to climb a rock face hahahah

Same place that gave me the $400 quote said they might be able to hook me up with a small t3 for $650. It would build boost a few hundred rpm later but carry out through the rpm range unlike the IHI…decisions

Fun fact- the IHI RHB52 is related to the turbo’s in a Ferrari F40.

Looking to have an IHI RHB52 rebuild for my ’88 turbo coupe swapped off-road ranger. I reached out to a company called Evergreen Turbo Company and got a decent quote but sounds like supplies might be hard for them to come by. Anyone have other recommendations? Possibly something closer to Indianapolis, IN.

I would take a shot at rebuilding it myself but I guess this particular unit requires pieces to be pressed in with close tolerances and was suggested not to try and perform it myself unless i have experience.

Another route would be to get a T3 with a .48 turbine housing but my guess is that would cost more than the rebuild. I got the whole truck for a steal so not really trying to dump dumb money into it.
