I did a little research on comparing staggered wheels of different diameters vs. staggered wheels with only width differences. It seems there is no clear answer as to which is better. That would depend on if you’re talking about a track experience vs. only city driving. For track usage, it seems going with the same wheel size and thus a wider front tire eliminates excessive understeer. Some understeer is good but not too much. Race drivers want more control over the nose of the car for track position, etc.

So, I’ve decided to go with a plus-one 4-wheel 19″ setup and the standard 10″/13″ front to rear width arrangement. I’d still like to hear from others…

I imagine the proverbial wheel upgrade subject is a big one. I have not come across a thread or comment that compared a staggered 18/19 setup vs. 19s on all corners. I own a 2001 GTS and am looking to upgrade from the stock 18s, mostly due to the tire situation we’re all aware of. So, from a handling standpoint, how do these two setups compare?

I intend to go with the 10″ front and 13″ rear stock widths, unless going narrower or wider has advantages. Looks matter, but I’m more interested in retaining or improving handling, not compromising it. Wheel/Car Handling experts– please chime in!
