Getting a custom tune might help some, but you really need to run cats if you don’t want to smell like gas. Some people are more sensitive to it than others.

Thanks, In looking into the HFC’s I see the ones from Roe Racing have a section of flex in them, where as I know my current exhaust set up does not have any kind of flex pipe in it… And I’m thinking this may have also caused an exhaust leak at the flange of the headers from being so rigid.

Are the Roe HFC’s the way to go? They look a bit pricey at $700+ per set, and I’m imagining most shops will charge me 2+ hours to install them.

My eyes would burn and I always wreaked of gas after driving my old car. At the time, it had OEM headers/exhaust with cat deletes. When I replaced it with Belanger headers and their catless exhaust, I found out why the gas smell was so bad…both sides of my mufflers had cracks at the end caps. One of the mufflers even had the packing material coming out. It was awful! With my Belanger headers at catless Belanger exhaust, my eyes no longer burned and the exhaust smell was pretty much gone.

Yep I’m wondering if the exhaust system has a few bad welds a gasket issue or if there is a hole in the piping/muffler somewhere.

Throw some high flow cats from either roe or partsrack. I recommend doing the work yourself if you are able to. It’s not too hard of a job. 2 hours sounds about right. It can take longer if the v-bands off the manifolds are really tight on there. Do yourself a favor and drench the v-bands with wd-40 and they will come off much easier.

If you do have a shop do the install, really check the exhaust tips before taking delivery and driving away. They need to be lined up perfectly or they will burn your side sill openings.

      Hey guys,

I have a new to me 2006 Viper. It has an SCT tune, K&N intake, cat delete, and Corsa cat back.

The exhaust smells extemely rich and the exhaust tips are covered in Soot. The exhaust smells like unburned fuel at times… It’s almost impossible to drive this car without my clothes smelling like exhaust and getting a headache.

I’m planning to get a custom tune from Sean Roe via email. (Dyno tuning is slim pickings in my area, with the only dyno shop booking late into October).

Do you guys think this is the source of the problem (the existing out of the box SCT tune)? It seems like it is running full rich regardless of throttle position.

Outside of this I’m looking at getting HFC’s put in. I’m also assuming the spark plugs are fouled from running so rich, as well as a possible exhaust leak. (Interior of car smells like exhaust all of the time).

      Thanks for the feedback.
