Thank you. I use Battery Tender, and it works great. My car can sit for weeks at a time…I use Hibernation Mode and a tender. Just replaced the original battery (7 years) out of an abundance of caution.

Public Service Advice: I deal with a lot of customers who have recently purchased Deltran Battery Tenders. The current chinese production units have a high failure rate. The original US versions were very good and the early chinese production units were ok. As they make them cheaper the quality has gone down. It got so bad, I decided to make US made chargers to compliment my other charging products. I don’t recommend any brand of chargers made in china today.
Many of the reviewers of Deltrans have had their units for a long time. They are the good ones. If you are buying a brand new one or replacing an old one now, you are not getting the same product as what was sold in the past. -

Thank you EZ 2B Green for letting us know that battery tender brand lead acid/ AGM trickle chargers seem to have lost their quality and safety since switching to over seas mfg. We talked with our lithium ion battery charger mfg C-tech and they will now be supplying us with lead acid/ AGM battery chargers to try out. C-tech’s lithium ion battery chargers are great and we have been using them for years now. We also include a C-tech lithium ion battery charger in all our lithium ion battery conversion kits for dodge vipers. We will give C-tech’s lead acid/ AGM chargers the abuse test before we recommend them to any of our customers and VOA members. I doubt we will have any problems but better us to find problems then our customers or VOA members.

Battery’s are cheap, unless going for weight reduction. Purchased my Gen V 4/14/2014, Dealer decided to replace oem at 11/2016. My current is still strong. AAA Auto club has a 3yr replacement for $133 installed at your home. hope this helps.

Good info Cashcorn, 133.00 battery installed at your house is a great deal. AAA has some great services that few people know about. Unlimited towing nation wide 150.00 per year ( might be more now), this is a great deal for track guys or if you like driving questionable old cars. I think AAA still offers cheap travel insurance for trailers and tow rigs kinda nice if you travel to tracks towing your viper.

When we developed our lithium ion racing battery conversion kit 4 years ago we found alot of good info during testing and prototyping. We had forgotten ALL about this information until talking with a customer who had questions about our racing battery hold down kit ( thank you Michael) we went back and looked at the info to answer some of his questions. We thought this info maybe helpful to some 5th gen viper owners out there in the community.
1. Keep your 5th gen viper on a trickle charger. If you driver your viper once a week and you have standard lead acid or AGM battery you should be ok without a trickle charge. We found after the first week of the car sitting the battery tends to loose charge quickly; This is due the to the CAN/ NAV system drawing power even when car is off. Cold or hot weather didnt really effect the time of the voltage drop very much, so Wyoming winter or Texas summer not much difference.
2. Trickle chargers. Lead acid or AGM batteries a battery tender brand trickle is by far your best bang for your buck when it comes to trickle chargers. We have dozens of battery tender trickle chargers in use year round and never had any problems with one of them. Amazon always seems to have the best price
3. Lithium ion batteries. If you have a lithium ion battery installed you must use a lithium ion battery compatible trickle charger. Lithium ion batteries have much better performance then lead acid batteries or AGM batteries. Lithium ion batteries are also approx 70% lighter then lead acid. BUT Lithium ion batteries do require a little more care then lead acid or AGM. We always recommend using a trickle charger if you have a lithium ion battery especially if your car sits for more then a few days. All our lithium ion battery conversion kits come with a trickle chargers. All our lithium ion batteries also have built in remote controlled emergency jump start just in case and your never left stranded. THIS OPTION IS WORTH THE PRICE OF THE BATTERY BY ITSELF.
4. Battery trackers Simple, easy to install and cheap. Battery trackers are a great tool for any car you dont drive daily. There are a few companies out there on the market today with varying quality battery trackers. We only use and sell anti gravity battery trackers; These battery trackers are very simple to install ( 5 min to install), They also have an app that works with your phone. Alerts you if your battery drops bellow a certain voltage, you can track battery performance over a 30 day period, and you can see live data from your battery anytime your within 100 feet of your viper.
