I only run one sensor/gauge (AEM 30-0300, installed pre-cat on the driver’s side) on my ’08, more so out of convenience than anything.

Monitoring both banks is certainly useful, at least so you can see which one may run leaner than the other. Once you figure that out, you really only need to run one on the leaner side to make sure you are commanding enough fuel to cover the worst case condition. Could you gain more by optimizing bank-to-bank? Probably, but my guess is that the gains would be minimal at best. My choice of running only one on the driver’s side is only backed up by anecdotal evidence from some other Gen 4s that have suffered engine failures on that bank (https://driveviper.com/forums/threads/28604-2008-Gen-IV-Calvo-Motorsports-Build):

Unfortunately, I had the same EXACT problem at 48k miles on my similar build Gen 4. Same exact piston #9.

I recall a well respected Team Viper Engineer mention #9 cylinder runs the hottest…

I should probably figure out which bank runs leaner for myself, but I don’t have the time/energy to do it. For me, the benefit of having the extra data was far out weighed by the added pain of routing another set of wires, mounting another gauge, and then getting it to show up in my logging software.

Thanks Steve. Seems most info online supports what you say about one side being ok. Since I all ready have the gauge I will probably just go with it.

Ugh…VEC does not control fuel to each cylinder.

      Is it at least bank-to-bank?

From my reading on it – no. When in piggyback mode (apparently it has a standalone mode?), it simply allows you to scale the factory setting so that you can run larger fuel injectors. Has some other adjustments that can be made, but nothing as complex as settings for individual injectors or banks.

I’m basing that off of threads/posts made by Sean Roe that I have previously read.

If it piggybacks on the JTEC, then there is underlying Bank-Bank capability. Is the VEC interface through the OBD port, or separate?

VEC2 plugs in between the factory ECU and wiring harness, iirc. The older VEC1 was spliced in.

I want to install a air/fuel gauge. I have a really nice AEM UEGO (not a Yugo) left over from my SRT-4 that I never installed. It is only a single gauge though. Is it better to install a dual gauge to monitor each bank on a Viper, especially if I keep my Vec2 that can program fuel in each cylinder? Thanks, Ron.
