this has happened multiple times to me. it seems scary since the door will not shut. it happens when you try to lock the doors and one door is not shut. somehow the electrical system can’t figure that out and the driver’s side door latch WILL NOT DROP AND SHUT THE DOOR. the trick is to use the key fob to lock and unlock the doors. then start the car if that will not work to reset the lock /unlock mode for the car. it will reset it.

I was having this problem. It was the latch telling me it was dying.
In a pinch, I chouod cycle the power by turning the key to the on position (not starting all the way) and back and that would get it to work. That was a stopgap measure at best. It was to get you home or to the tech. I wouldn’t make a habit of it. Basically what it was like to me what the door would just “bounce” back from the closed position. Almost like there was no latch.
I recommed replacing it. I doubt it’s an issue of the battery because usually when the batteries start to go at all, you can’t start the car cause it can’t turn that big v-10 over. IN my experience, the latch is a weak point like the window regulator.

I have an ’05 Vert.
This has happened twice this summer. I have gone to close the driver side door and it won’t latch shut. The first time I thought the door had sagged and was about to work on the hinges when it finally closed with no problem. It’s been a month since that first episode and it happened again yesterday. The door closes but does not latch. I looked carefully and it is not a door alignment problem and the latch and posts haven’t slipped. I opened a closed the passengers side door and then, magically, the drivers side door worked again.
My thoughts are that either the drivers side door latch is failing or it could be a symptom of the battery failing. What do you think?
