I had a problem with the door handle (driver side) on my Gen 2, it turned out to be the wiring harness that goes from the body into the door. It happens from opening and closing the door the wires tend to break (Vipers and Corvettes have this problem, so I’m told). If both doors aren’t working try looking for a common door relay. I would guess your AC controls light is a separate issue (lamp or connection).

This was my experience, hope it helps in your application.

Thanks justme. Yeah, I’ve been reading about the door wire harness on some other forums. Owners says these wires become worn fast. I did pull up on the boot and tugged on the wires to see if one came free, but the space is limited. I think I’ll pull the door panel off this weekend to see if there’s any obvious problems. Besides the power distribution block, do you know if there is another fuse panel inside the car? It’s an 06.

On my Gen 2 one under the hood by the main positive connection and one under the dash on drivers side (pull-off door). On my car I ended up slitting the rubber expansion boot (between the door and body) and separating the wires in the harness. The wires break inside the insolation so you need to move the wires separately and look for an odd bend in the wire insulation. I had two wires break and they were both in the bend of the rubber boot. I ended up cutting all the wires in the harness (at that point) and soldering in about a three inch piece of stranded wire (more flexible). I then used shrink wrap on all the connections and slipped the rubber boot back on and kept it together with ty-wraps. The thing that puzzles me is why both doors are affected, my passenger door still worked.

Your car may be wired different than my 02, but the door harness seems to be a problem.

Is it happening on both doors? Other area to look at for a broken wire is the opening in the end of the door where the door latches. The wires run close to this area and if they came loose, they will get pinched in the door lock. And yes, I know this from personal experience on my 2009.

go back to the basics, check your ground connections first

Help please! As of recently, my exterior door handles are not working and the AC controls are not backlit (never paid attention if they ever were or not). I’ve checked all the fuses and all are fine. Any idea what I else I can look at? Thanks.
