A question was asked on the board call if we can add some kind of “stars” or indication on forum names for the # of years someone is a member. As I mentioned, we did look into this, I did look back on what made it difficult and was reminded of the problem. The system won’t allow us to indicate ACTUAL years that you are a member. So if you join in 2013, but skipped 2014, and then you became a member in 2015 – it’s going to give you 3 stars indicating you were a member for 3 years.
However it led to an idea that accomplishes the same thing. Talking with Don, I suggest we simply have the forums look up the user and see their registration date, and we were able to add a “member since” tag on people’s forum avatars. I think this accomplishes the same thing and avoids being erroneous. Plus it actually highlights long time membership by indicating when someone joined the club.
It was something that we previously didn’t think of, but I think this really does the trick. We’ve gone ahead and activated it today. I would have loved to indicate the actual # of years, but I think their join date accomplishes it in a similar way. We’ll see how people like it.
