      Hello,

I'm fairly new to the world of Vipers, but extreamly excited to see the wealth of knowledge on this site. In the past I've been a Porsche guy, but feel it's time to add some American Muscle to the the stable!

I've been searching for a clean, low mile, Gen II Viper… for about the last month. Obviously not rushing into anything, as I continue to seek that mechanically sound car that will remain in my family for years to come. Plus the search is part of the fun!

I look forward to educating myself more on Vipers and hope to someday pay it forward to other new Viper owners.

      Cheers – Andy

Andy, a little note to hopefully help you on your search–

I’m not sure what you consider “low mileage” but a few miles is nothing to be scared of on these cars. I mean, if it’s important to have collector miles only then go for it, but don’t think you need to insist on sub 10k mile cars to get a good one. It really all comes down to maintenence and care. If you find someone who keeps all their records and can prove how well it was maintained, a 30 or 40k mile car is more than adequate. You can go through our trusted dealers on here to know you get a good car. Or also, many members here are meticulous about their vehicles and you can get the added benefit of others on the site “vouching” for the car or the owner. Many times you will see people do that without even being prompted. They will just jump in with “Mr XYZ keeps his cars awesome. I even saw this one at car and coffee lately and it’s gorgeous” or something like that. Which is a nice advantage over buying from a random dealer.

Though there is no replacement for a good pre-purchase inspection done by a qualified and respected Viper tech. You should have that done if the car has 300 miles on it or 43,000. But I just mean, don’t be scared of some miles on these cars. They can definitely handle it and it all comes down to care. I just clicked my 2006 over to 30k (22k miles of which are mine, done in 3 calander years) and I recently had one of the most respected techs in the country do a full fluid swap and put in a new clutch (I am a bit harder on my clutch because of my prosthetic left leg) and would put my car up against many people’s 10k mile daily drivers. So don’t write off a car at 30k miles as “high mileage.” Especially when you think a 2002 is 14 years old, so 30k is only 2200 miles per year. Our recent drive to Lousiana and back was more than that. So don’t be scared of a few miles!

Good luck. We hope to see you at the next NVE in Vegas.
