A 1:46 is a very solid ( and quick ) time at Heartland and with only a few changes you will likely be in the 1:44s. Yes, you read right, not the 1:45s but even quicker and the changes are pretty small. Open up the track ( you are pinching off some areas not using the whole track ) use more curbing, and get on the power a bit sooner and braking a bit later. All of these items are little steps and I am actually confident that doing some of these things you might find a high 1:43 by the end of the year. Put the prediction down on paper, it can happen!

I’ll mark you down Bill 😉 Thanks for the advice on the phone! As a guy that has driven his fair share of Vipers and had experience at Heartland, I really appreciate it.

The R7s were cycled out by the end of the weekend, I think you’re right though. 43s are attainable with better lines and newer tires.

I hope to see you out there at the end of the month! I wish I were able to go to Viper Rendezvous, just bad timing!

Glad to help and having run a zillion miles there in Spec Miata actually helps as I ran the same line with my Viper. The track is getting quicker, two years after the repave , and with some fresh Hoosiers you should be there in the 1:45s quite easy. Did you run TT1 and beat the two ZR1 Vettes that were thinking of running?

Ran TT1, only one ZR1 ran and he beat me by 2 seconds. He ran a 1:44.441

Had a fun weekend out at Heartland with NASA Central Region. Heartland’s surface was redone in 2016 and is still incredibly smooth, and fast!

I ran a personal best of 1:46.3 (1:46.5 by my X2), but I’m still leaving time on the table I feel. I’m not a pro-driver by any means, this is just a hobby a dozen times a year or so.

Watching the video, I feel like I can pick up time in turn 6 (sharp 75 degree turn to the left, up a hill towards the back straight), then going in to the chicane, I feel like I should be able to carry more speed (turns 8 and 9). Finally turns 13 and 14 headed towards the front straight I feel like I could be faster as well.

I’m VERY open to constructive criticism. And yes, on the last straight I waved at my kiddo.
