Specifically manual transmission hellcat challengers, has anyone driven one? Obviously the viper is more the drivers car but I'm wondering if I've been unfairly trashing the hellcat about being boring.. I saw some on eBay for 55k ish and realized they came in manuals, which I didn't previously know..

Lemur you should be writing for one of the auto magazines…trashing a car you haven’t driven or even know someone that has….you sound like an excellent candidate.

Well, I owned a 2007 Charger SRT8, with the 5 speed auto, and the 6.1 rated at only 425 hp – and let me tell you, that car was a blast! I miss it, a lot. So I can only imagine the Hellcat would be crazy-ass fun! Hell, my 5.7 Hemi Ram is no slouch….

I have a 6-speed manual and absolutely love mine. The heaviness of the car is not as noticeable as you may think. The car is so much fun to drive that I sometimes choose it over taking the Viper. It shifts great, rides smooth, and is a boat load of fun when you put the hammer down….even just a little. The exhaust and supercharger whine are addicting. Can’t go wrong with it IMO.

I have a 6 speed, the motor supercharger and exhaust is awesome ,but it’s a big car. The viper is totally different hugs the road, Hellcat feels very heavy

Are hellcats really selling in the 55K range with a manual in the used market right now? I love the idea of using one as a DD.

I own a Hellcat with the A8 auto and I love it. It is not made to be a track car although it handles well through the corners. Just not like a Viper. It’s meant for straight line performance and is much more comfortable than the Viper. If you are looking for a daily driver and don’t live in snow country, you should consider it. There are some great buys out there right now because of the 2017’s coming out in October. There is little difference between the 2016’s and the 2017’s except for some color options, new interior and exterior badging. You should also look at one with the A8 transmission. It’s the most fun you’ll ever have with an automatic. The A8’s are going for a little more than the 6 speed as it is a $3k option. It’s slightly faster than the 6 speed as well. It has a great sound to it as well. It literally rattles the aluminum siding on my storage garage every time I fire it up.
