Can you get a Viper Tech to look at it prior to making an offer? Otherwise it appears their starting point might be way too high. I wouldn’t offer $27k for a car that could have $15k in repairs coming plus a bad car fax.

Unknown knocking noise from the engine?
Run like the wind.
-
Yeah stay away from it unless a Viper Tech looks at it and it’s something simple.

If it was a slight constant clicking/ticking sound, it could be that it needs a heavier weight oil. Lot of guys switched to 15w-50 especially in the warmer climates and the noise got a lot better or went away completely. I would have the dealer try that to see if it helps.
If it’s more of an engine knock, like Plum said…run.

Maybe see if they’re willing to offer a warranty for 60 days or so? I still wouldn’t offer what they’re asking but you could start out with a lower offer with a warranty. If they refuse to offer the warranty then use that to negotiate a much lower price. It sounds like getting your Gen IV engine in it might be a bit of a challenge so unless you can get it really cheap I’d stay away from it probably.

Thanks guys im going to see what the warranty guy says otherwise walk away 😀

Knock or more of a tick? Many Gen 3’s had a fairly loud injector tick.

Engines are tough…a 60 or even a 90 day warranty might not be enough time for something to hard fail if in fact there is something wrong internally or in the valve train. A Viper Tech can tell you what’s up with the car. It might cost a couple hundred for the inspection but that’s a lot cheaper than buying it and have a possible motor fail down the road…

A dealership repossessed a 2003 Red GEN III Vert Viper Vert roadster,
60000 miles
When I heard it running I heard a ticking, knocking noise from either the passenger valve cover or in the top half of the motor. I looked online and I see some with 59k miles selling around 30-35K, So my question is what should I offer this dealership for the car? They say they have 27K in the car, but I have no clue what the motor repair would be on the car.
I asked Chris Ashey he said it might be a spun rod barring, from what I told him, but he didn’t hear it and was going off my description. What do you guys think I should offer them for the Viper? I know there is no way im going to offer them 27k for a broke one.Need advice thanks all in advance.
