I think everything on your list is negotiable except V10, 2 seats, and a Manual Transmission. Stray from that and you no longer have a Viper.
-
V10 isn’t a requirement for me if it means we can have a Gen VI as long as it follows the clear style evolution of the Viper. Two seats, looks like a Viper, great performance (including track), front engine, & RWD.

Because of federal mandates, manual transmissions cannot be used. For example there is no way for automatic speed sensing and collision avoidance systems to downshift a manual transmission. These features will be mandatory on all cars very soon. Chrysler is not going to design a manual transmission car and then be forced to discontinue it for DCT or automatic soon afterward. That being said I like my manual 🙂

I see a bill passed the US Congress last year, but it is still in the US Senate. If it were to become law this year I would presume any mandatory enforcement would be, at a minimum, 5 years afterwards, maybe longer.
If you know of an actual law/regulation please share a link to it.
Thank you

I don’t think there is a question that the Viper name will be used on a future model. It is not going unnoticed that the last generation is selling well over MSRP only a few years after the production seized
That said, what it will look like is anybody’s guess at this point. They brought the gas guzzling, non sensible (I own one and love it) ‘Hummer’ back as a state of the art electric vehicle !!!
So it will be interesting to see what happens and what it will be like when brought back. Those that love the previous generations better just pick one up while they can. I don’t believe it will be anything like it

Or costs-saving wise, should I say…
On a marketing point of view, I don’t see how a V8 -and already available in other models- would be tempting for a potentiel gen 6 buyer.I see the Viper as something very unique, built around a unique motor. I don’t think it should share the engine with anything else.

True.
The brand names recycling is obviously the trend.
At least if a full electric Viper ever comes out, it will have a lot of torque! 😉

Personnally, my wishlist would be:
– V10 engine 6-7.5 liters or so
– 7,000rpm and up
– Better sound
– Dry sump
– Electric compressor(s) 48v+ with plug-in lithium batteries
– 800-1000 bhp
– 90% of torque from 1,500rpmOf course RWD, mid-front engine, sub-3,300lbs if possible with the use of carbon and aluminum, 305/365 tires, and active aero for the ACR version.

Definitely what Aevus said. Obviously 8.4L’s is not going to pass regulations today…so reduce it down to 8.0L again or 7.0L if it has to be. I’d be ok with DOHC if it was necessary to make up for the lack of displacement. But I want the engine to rev higher, 7k, 7.5k something like that.
Vipers should always have a manual of course, but if they want it to sell it needs an automatic. Imo the only factory automatic that belongs in a Viper is DCT.

Probably discussed plenty of times already but still, I wonder what members of this forum think of their ”dream Gen 6” (if that ever happen)
Interesting article here:
https://dodgeforum.com/articles/original-viper-team-members-discuss-gen-6-supercar/
The Future Viper
At the end of the piece, Theodore finally offers his input as to what he would like to see from a sixth generation Dodge Viper.“I’ll be a heretic. I am bored with mid-engine supercars now. They’re all just differently styled doorstops. I don’t think the world needs another one,” said Theodore. “I would do a front-engine, rear-drive car, and I’d try this time to go ultralight because there’s only one thing these electric supercars can’t do—they’re not light and not tossable. I would like to see it proportioned down, same long-nose, short-deck, minimalist kind of car,” he said. “I’d do an aluminum block version of [the Challenger Hellcat Redeye’s] Hemi V-8. I’d probably get rid of the [heavy] supercharger, twin-turbocharge it, maybe augment it with the electric drive technology that they already have, and go rear-wheel drive. I’d probably have those turbos dumping out the gills between the front-wheels and door openings. That’d be my last-hurrah Viper.”
To many longtime Viper enthusiasts, suggestions of transitioning away from the V10 is completely unacceptable, but many modern Mopar fans want to see the Hellcat Hemi at work in the supercar. Gale seems to agree.
So what would be your ”sine qua non” conditions to just consider buying one?
Or conditions that, at the very least, would make the hypothetical Gen 6 worthy of the Viper legacy?– V10 engine?
– Front engine?
– Naturally aspirated?
– Manual transmission? (at least as an option)
– Two-seaters? (you never know!)
– Convertible and coupe?
– Lightweight? (say sub-3,500lbs)
– Design? (gen 1-2-5, gen 3-4 or else)In other words: what is the SOUL of a Viper…?
