Public Service Announcement:
Last week I had my car at Tom Sessions and Tom found two issues that I was unaware of.
1st. My front right shock was leaking.
2nd. On the front right knuckle one of the bolts that holds the caliper on had pulled away. We went to tighten it back down and realized it was stripped. My guess is it came from the factory this way
onto the PSA portion. Doug Shelby makes a kit that converts the knuckles from using bolts to using studs that the caliper slides onto and then bolts at the top. FYI this is how the brake calipers are on the Comp Coupes as it is less likely to cause a damaged knuckle then using bolts. I will be changing all of my wheels over to use the studs
FYI. Cost of the knuckle is $1,000 and the cost of the shock is about $600. I am lucky that I have the Mopar MaxCare warranty on my car and am still covered so I don’t have to pay the costs of the parts or labor. Just my $100 deductible.
Doug sells the kits for $259 and in my opinion it was a no brainier to purchase the kit and convert all 4 wheels. Once I am out of MaxCare coverage I really don’t want a 1K bill for something like a stripped bolt hole.
