      Quick answers:

For bullets 1 & 3, a person can indeed be an associate member of a region and does not need to be a member of national. They of course don’t get a magazine, can’t use our call center, no badges/gift/packet, avatar doesn’t show as member, etc… No, they do not have to have a viper, it’s meant for enthusiasts/future owners to be close to us. They can indeed simply directly request an associate membership from the region. However, many local regions haven’t established an associate membership – and they don’t need to – it’s totally up to the region on whether they want to allow associate memberships. The national bylaws cited this function to allow for it in case a region wanted to, otherwise they would violate bylaws. As for cost, a local region can charge whatever they’d like for an associate membership, it’s generally whatever covers the cost of their share of the regional website, mailers, newletters, etc… I’ve seen $55 to be the common amount for an associate. IL has a very formal process, they also have a form – perhaps contact them and you can just use all the same.

On your 2nd bullet, no they don’t need to go through national for associate memberships. It’s directly with that person and the region.

Good question (and one that’s been asked before) so it’s perfect for the forums.

I don’t have a feel for how many local regions may have adopted associate members, but I know of 5 regions that have it in use.

      take care

We have members who are regional members only – for various reasons. But, as an example, one of our members has a Viper truck – and they are not allowed to join VOA. I don’t agree with this decision but I’m not going to beat my chest about it. We are happy to have them in our club. Some folks just don’t care about being in the national organization but are want to participate on the local level – simple as that.

      Tim –

MCVO has regional Associate Members who are not national members. The membership fee we charge is $10 more than what we would have received from the national if they had joined as national members. Our Associate Members cannot hold an elected office.

We haven’t had any in NY/CT for a while, but at times when we did they were usually Corvette guys who were close friends with a member. We welcomed them in for $60 to try to convert them through prolonged exposure 🙂
benefits were limited to getting member pricing for local events where that was applicable, and being included on the email blasts about events.

Two items in the bylaws caught my attention.

Active Member Associate. An active member can request a person be granted this membership but the fee isn’t listed and it is not written this individual need to own a Viper.

Region Associate Member. This person can join the region for a fee set by said region but this person can not currently own a Viper.

Looking for clarification on the two.

-If a Viper owner wants to be part of the region but not the National Club he/she must have an Active Member request an Active Member Associate membership?

-If a person, either future owner/Viper fan/friend, wants to join the region they can for a region set amount? This doesn’t have to go through National?

-What about a Viper owner who just wants to be part of the region and doesn’t want anything to do with the National Club?

If anyone has any examples of these please share.

Thank you and I am looking forward to your replies,

      Tim
