For almost anyone tracking at any experience level I highly recommend picking up a copy of Ross Bentley’s Ultimate Speed Secrets. Your questions will be answered 🙂

From page 94 in the book shortened version: Separating winners from others…..

      1.0 The line
2.0 Acceleration phase of the corner focus on longest straights 1st
3.0 Corner entry speed so as not to delay the acceleration phase
      4.0 Mid-corner speed

As a relative newbie this is what I focus on.

Driving at 7/10th of your ability is a very popular technique in HPDE circles.

i am wanting to get some info from our track rats that have experience and don’t mind sharing some racecraft secrets.
What are some of the technics that people use to negotiate the track faster or more efficiently.

For example: i am fascinated with trail braking. Even with understeer you can position the car just how you want it by using this technics.

      So far i have:

      1. trail braking-Again fascinating
      2. race line
a.do you hit turn in the same for every corner
b.do you hit the apex the same for every corner
c.do you hit the track out point the same for every corner
      d.explain why if you don’t
      3. negotiating lappers
      4. gear selection-this is a biggie to me because it seems that gear selection affects if the car feels planted or not. I have had pro’s in a previous sport teach me that 3rd gear mid throttle is faster that 2nd WOT.

If you can think if other technics please add them.
