No desire to go with a hardwired transponder? I never have to worry about mine not being charged.

Sounds like you had a pretty good weekend. Problems you had are pretty common for everyone. 10 years, a little frustration, alot of patience and your 3 year old will be your track data guy.
Looks like you had just a little to much camber for those tires running a big 3/4 roval. Car probably felt really good though for 4-5 laps I bet?
Rovals are difficult to setup for , little or no testing makes it even more difficult. Good job squeezing a heater out and record…….

It is hardwired to the battery. It has to be charged to a certain point in order to hit, without the car running it’s not charging..it’s typically only running when I’m about to go out.

I think if I charge it the week before it should last just fine.

As far as the alignment went, I kinda knew what I was getting into, I just didn’t have the motivation to change the alignment for one weekend. I tried to keep sessions between 2-6 laps to try and save the tires the best I could.

I had 0 complaints. Car ran strong! My Catalyst is at Garmin HQ today and they’re going to try and recover the video for me.

I bet the battery in it is on it’s last legs. I should be able to sit for months and never die. Mine has been hardwired for 5 years and my cars for months at a time and I’ve never had to think about the transponder, it always works.

      Maybe?

It’s from 2016. Can you just buy a replacement battery for them?

It’s definitely something. I did just find out that my MicroSD Card is beyond help. There’s a hairline crack in it, found under a microscope.

Here’s a guy in HPDE 4 that ran a 1:31.77, I beat him by about 7.5 seconds. His video will give you an idea the track flow.

Let me guess – inside left? There’s a reason IndyCars on ovals look like they’ve been in a wreck when they are set up on the pads.

      Yep! Inside of front left.

All asphalt circle track cars are positive left neg right for camber; If your strictly a road course guy when you see circle track camber split it always looks like a counter intuitive wreck.
Rovals especially large ones you have to find and good compromise of negative camber for both right and left. You also might throw a few turns into the right front and RIGHT rear and work with the caster a bit.
The trick is to balance the car so its not a pucker factor 100 pushy dump truck on the oval and its workable on the infield road course.

And for those that missed the Viper Rendezvous or want more fun time at Motorsport Park Hastings, the Central Region of NASA is going to be running there August 27-28 ( drivenasacentral.com ). Expect to see you there Cobra 13 and I will be hitting that new, smooth asphalt also. Crazy that the repave is not only super easy on tires, but folks were running 3-5 seconds faster this year. I figured it would be a year or two of seasoning before MPH became really quick , but the new process they used and the fact that they did it in October of 2021, it seems the track is already at an optimal level. Great shots, Nick, and I look forward to seeing you in Hastings and hopefully we will get a bunch of folks from here to sign up too !!

If I can get a clutch in and ready by then I’m good to go. I’m signed up for Sunday as of right now. My sons birthday party is Saturday at Arrowhead.

Well, dang, seems like you have a heck of a time getting to Hastings with your RaceSnake, and with all your plans you better just block out early June 2023 so you can make the Viper Rendezvous then. I have faith you will do quite well, but I also figure you would like some seat time there before the ” Big Viper Track Event ” that the Viper Rendezvous has become!

Get your mechanics to put in your clutch, or can they only work on Fords, ha?!

Oh they can put it in, I just have to have it first.

BBG was 4-5 weeks out, I talked to Victor at Complete Performance and we’re going to work something out for a quicker turnaround.

Has the date for Rendezvous 2023 been announced yet? I should be ok if it holds to about the same time frame. My June out of state board meeting is the 3rd weekend in June when it’s normally the 2nd.

The Rendezvous is normally the first weekend other than the 1st , which can land on the Memorial Day Weekend. You should be in good shape and good luck on the clutch my friend.

Excellent, I’ll make it work then!

I’ll have to bring a hell of a tow rope in order to hook up to either Bob or Cable to pull me around the track.

I can do that Cindi, since I will be instructing —– I can show them on a chart, map, easel, etc. and that way I can pretend I used to be fast and since I won’t be in a Viper I will have a legitimate reason to be slower, ha. I do plan on making sure I am watching my mirrors when Nick comes up behind me in his Comp Coupe Missile!!

      Frustrating weekend.

Saturday morning it was gorgeous outside, perfect weather, almost cool. It warmed up to upper 80s, little overcast. It was humid, but the Midwest is always humid.

Started the day out by my transponder not hitting because it wasn’t charged. I need to do better about pulling it out to charge it, rather than relying on the car to charge it. Especially when there’s 2-3 weeks between events. When I ran my Gen IV ACR, I would drive it sporadically between events and keep it charged.

      We ran the Roval course.

      Kansas-Speedway.jpg

The bus stop/chicane in the picture isn’t very indicative to what it was actually like. It was much tighter. I’d brake to about 58-62mph from 140+. I ran my fastest time the third session out at 10:30am. I ran a warm up lap, then laid down a scorcher of a lap with a 1:24.45. My transponder STILL didn’t hit, so afterwards I pulled it out and charged it manually. I’m adding that to my race-prep checklist. In the last session of the day all I could muster was a 1:25.76 (new official record) with traffic, but had an optimal of 1:24.15. 170mph was fast, that’s about as quick as I want to go I think. Took a lot of trust in tires and brakes.

My clutch started slipping in the afternoon pretty bad. I ended up killing it completely first thing Sunday morning. Reached out to Toddy and getting one coming.

On the way to the hotel Saturday night, my 3 year old pulled the SD Card out of my Garmin Catalyst and it forced a reformat. So, until I can figure something out, I can’t access the video. Fortunately I think it’s still there, because all of the data is still there and I haven’t overwritten it with anything new. Fingers crossed I can find a company or someone to pull it for me. With that said, if anyone of you geniuses can help, it’d be MUCH appreciated.
