we have a peasant version 2013 x5, 35i. LOL
The X5M is quite the SUV.
join an X5 FB group. It gets asked alot. Most that live in extreme cold temps will recommend separate set for snow/temps.

Buy a winter wheel and tire package and just swap them out for each season. That’s what most of us do in western Canada where the 3 season tires don’t stop or grip well in the winter.

I tracked my wife’s X5M, it was really fun and fast for 2 laps, but obviously the brakes were done after two laps and also got coolant temp warnings and reduced power. It would hit 260 coolant in two laps, even with 100 octane
I wouldn’t worry about the tires, the awd and stability control will do it’s job

Thanks for the response Baked. That’s the best play, although a bit expensive for 21″ and 22″ rims. But I’ve decided to go too all season tires during the winter months. Just have to decide/budget how to attach them to the wheels. I might be able to get away with the 3 season tires, but I don’t need the worry.

Fascinating! Watched the video and even though I’m not a huge BMW person, I want one! Sharp. BMW has done much better on the styling of the SUV’s than the sedans. 625hp is no joke either. Enjoy it and let us know how you like it once you put it through its paces…

Planned to trade my 2018 Range Rover Sport Dynamic (and my daughter’s jeep) in for a BMW X5 M Competition. Put down my deposit the last week of March. They said it would take 10-12 weeks since BMW’s X plant is in South Carolina so I’m all set for the first week of June.

3 weeks later and I just got the call that it arrived! Yay … but it throws my trade ins and budgeting all off. I’m a neurotic planner :witless:

Anyway, here’s my question. It’s a “family car” so it will never see the track, although it will see some spirited driving. The OE tires are all 3 season, which may be impractical in NYC and surrounds. Not so much concerned with snow, but I am concerned with winter low temps and just how slippery the tires will become.

I can replace all the tires immediately with all season tires of the same size. Yes I’ll loose some dry summer weather traction, but I will be able to use the “family” car throughout the winter.

Cold weather has a serious effect on my Viper’s Michelins, but it never see’s temps below about 35 degrees. I can’t imagine how slick the rubber would be at say 10 degrees.

Thoughts and opinions?
