He was very talented , I recall watching him at Daytona Speedway racing when he was only 14 or 15 winning races . A true Class Act and very approachable .
Sad to see him pass so soon . RIP Nicky #69

I know that it’s not a motorcycle forum but on my way to work, I saw a digital sign on 101 North that had a picture of Nicky and the date of his passing.
Back in the early 2000s I used to race with the AFM, and at the time, Nicky was ruling over the AMA. He then decided to go for MotoGP and after a few decent years, he finally won the MotoGP in 2006, edging out my long time idol Valentino Rossi.

It was great to see him parade with the American flag and celebrate his championship.
Anyway, I read about his cycling crash in Italy back in May and I was hoping like millions of other MotoGP fans that he would recover. Sadly he passed away.

I’ve been pretty swamped at work since May and after I read about the accident, I didn’t follow up and this morning, that sign on the highway reminded me of his fate.
