      That’s horrible.

I’d have 0 interest getting on a track with someone that’s never been on a track before.

I’d rather chew on nails than get on the Ring with a bunch of people who paid $29 to get on a track haha

Not much of a difference in peoples mentality on track if they paid 20 bucks or 10k bucks to be there. The people who paid 10K bucks just have better safety equipment.

Oh, I don’t know. I’d bet there are a lot of people that would pay $30 to run around the Ring, but wouldn’t pay $300 to run a NASA/SCCA weekend.

The guy that crashed was reportedly a regular at the Ring. He hit a TRUCK on the track responding to a clean-up a spill from a Porsche that had already put other cars off the track. Where were the course workers? Do they not have enough? Flags? Low budget operation? I wouldn’t jump to conclusions on where the responsibility lies.

I read that. I wasn’t saying the guy that died was at fault by any means.

I was simply saying that under no circumstances would I be interested in jumping on a track with a bunch of people who’ve never been on a track before. I’ve seen people drive enough on public roads to know I don’t care to see them go any faster.

I agree. There is hardly any information from which to draw a conclusion other than a WAG. The one thing that I noted is that the fatality was of a regular driver/visitor at the track. So, at least he was a person who fully understood the risks and the possibility of encountering an incident like this. The specific accident situation of coolant on the track, 5-15 cars spinning, cars pulled over, and civilians running up the track to warn drivers is not “that” unusual. ( I have seen a few of those ‘ring videos before.) It certainly is sad when we hear of a fellow enthusiast paying the ultimate price for participating in what many of us enjoy so much.

I don’t think they run flaggers on non-race days.

Tourist lap crashes are NOT uncommon, fatalities are.
