I bought a Jag XF last year as a daily driver. Was looking at XJs as well but for my budget I couldn’t get a CPO, only one without a warranty and don’t want that from any modern Euro car.

The interiors on the Jags are the best by a mile when compared to their competitors, at least in my opinion. I also like them because they’re different and somewhat rare as opposed to BMW, Mercedes and Audi which are like Honda Civics out here in LA.

What’s your budget? The Jaguar XJ is the only sedan that I can say I lust after, I find it a very beautiful car and always think about getting one. Mine has been fairly reliable, I did have a fuel injector go out but that’s a Bosch part I believe so I can’t really blame Jaguar. I also have little things pop up usually every 3 months or so that don’t affect reliability but it’s somewhat annoying.

No real budget at this point. I know (or have read) that there is a known water pump issue on the Jags. A bad gasket (crappy material).

Love my 2012 XJL (non supercharged V8). CPO warranty just to be safe, had some small issues (tea tray table latches, busted 4 so far for whatever reason) but nothing major and all covered under the warranty without quibbling. Car has been solid. Sunroof squeaks when it gets iced up, needs to be kept clear.

Dealer experience is fantastic. Zero upsells and the service guys are top notch. Better than my Porsche experience (merely average) next door.

I do not like the V6 variants with the AWD, they seem too rough and the eco mode makes it seem like it stalls.

I bought a CTS-4 (AWD) for the better half to drive as her daily driver. It was a 2011 that I bought used in 2013 I think it was. It had under 20,000 miles on it when I bought it. I just traded it a few months ago with 85,000 miles on it. We looked at and drove MB and BMW comparable cars when we bought it and she liked the looks, the ride and the interior on the CTS the best by far….I did too. I bought the extended warranty on it when I bought it since it was my first Cadillac and didn’t know what to expect but I never had a need to use the warranty. It was never in the shop for a single mechanical issue or warrrantly claim. The only real issue we ever had with it was after a minor incident where she got tagged from behind on an exit ramp….after the insurance fixed it all up the rear tires were bald in short order. Took it in and the body shop had neglected to check the alignment and it was out far enough that it trashed the rear tires quick. The dealership did the accident repairs so they apologized, did the alignment and replaced the tires at no charge.

She loved the car and the few times I drove it on short trips I liked it too. My biggest disappointment with it was the gas mileage for her as a daily driver. I expected it to do much better. It averaged around 16-17mpg which is less than my Ram pickups have always gotten.

She really wanted to get back into an SUV mainly for the room and for the winter so I traded it for a Land Rover for her a few months ago and so far so good. It’s getting 21mpg with the little turbo 4 cylinder. I also got the extended warranty on it!!

      To all,

Looking at a daily driver XLR, CTS (coupe) or Jag XJ. Anyone have experience on these as well as costs of ownership? Thanks in advance.

      Plaw
