There is a Track Night in America this Friday at Charlotte Motor Speedway and I have to admit I have never driven on an oval before mainly because I love road courses. The other disappointment is they are not going to include the back straight chicane this time for some reason so basically they are running 7/8 of the oval and then a few corners on the infield road course. What are the general opinions/suggestions about taking a street car out on an oval track? For a TNIA, it shouldn’t be a big deal…
But if you’re really trying to push for fast times, I would have no idea where to start on alignment and tire pressures.

Yeah…. no super fast times for me in this arena that I have zero experience. I know my car has a TA1 alignment set up which is great for my local tracks (VIR, AMP, CMP, Barber, and Road Atlanta) however the banking at the speedway is a different animal. I’m guessing I would run higher psi on the passenger side by maybe a pound or two. Also have no idea what the entry speed to the banked corners would be for a car that doesn’t have an oval alignment setup. 150 mph?

I have run quite a few laps at Pocono on both Corsas and R7s. I’ve run every configuration there including the NASCAR oval. Setup was not tailored to the oval and I didn’t have any trouble. I did follow the technical advisory from Hoosier to increase tire pressure for the higher loads in the banking particularly in NASCAR turn 1, but at the same time I’m not carrying huge pace relative to what the car can do.

It’s race chrono data fed into a template in dashware. The template was posted on youtube in a how to.
