FYI – we’ve recently over the last couple months been targeted by someone who is using our website to test stolen credit cards. We put plans in place on our magazine ordering to prevent this, though now they have moved to use our new member portal to do the same. When we come across fake registrations, we remove them and refund the cost – however we’re working on implementing something now to stop these from happening by implementing a check point before the charge is made.
While I know several have drawn on a conclusion on what parties this may be – I’m not sure this is being done to hurt us. I’m saying that to be fair. This could be a club member involved in illedgal activity and knowing our website – chooses to use it for this purpose.
We’ll have something in place soon. For now, if you see a notice for what is clearly a fake person, simply disregard – we’re clearing it in the background and will have something in place shortly.
We’ve also had many attempts to hack access to our databases and website. Clearly we’re being targeted by more than just bots unfortunately, however, we’re locked down tight against these targeted attacks we’ve been getting. Several of us in IT are monitoring closely (and also doing some detective work…). WE’ll see what comes of it – but for now we’re mainly focused on stopping their ability to charge to our system for maliscious reasons.
