Hello everyone, my name is Web Driver. Yes, it’s a retarded name, but when I was installing the software I had to come up with something on the spot, so this was it. I’ll change it later.
Most of you know who I am, but for now, I am “Web Driver”. Please do not refer to my real name in any manner, my anonymity must be held at all costs. Please do not CC any of my email addresses to anyone when replying to them as most of my email addresses contain my real name. Please, please, please do your best to keep me secret for now. There are very real world implications if my ID is leaked.
As such, I will not be posting in the main forums at all, going to events, or coming out of my dark cave.
Now, with that out of the way, I’d like to explain a few things about how things will be put together. Firstly, please note that I am a very flexible person, and will always check with the appropriate people before I do things. I will make suggestions, strong at times, about things that I know work, and things that don’t. But the bottom line is, you are the client, and I will do what you request.
As far as the general appearance of the entire site, everything is going to be based off of how the forums currently look. Same colors, textures and “feel”. This will give us a nice cohesive look.
Discussion Board:
Please understand that setting up the board is a very tedious task. For anyone who has ever been in the vBulletin control panel, they can testify to the 4230939485 different settings, groups and forums which need to be configured. This takes time to get everything the way we want it. Both the VCA and VA have a decade of fine tuning, and they both started out just as bumpy as we will. So please be patient as everything is put into place.Appearance: This is the basic theme we will be using. Things such as icon, logo, advertisements, etc will fall into place as we get them. This theme was chosen by folks in charge, and not arbitrarily by me. It will require a few tweaks, but nothing major. I’ve already heard things about signature sizes, line spacing, icons, etc. I am currently focusing on major components and getting the “core” of the site together, and when that is done I will come back and start working on the smaller detailed.
Usergroups: I currently have a moderators group, a web committee group, members group, associate members group, normal users and a national officers group in place. In time, the national officers group will most likely morph into an “officers” group. On the VCA site, these groups are automatically maintained and updated weekly from the members database. Which we do not have in place yet. This means, for a little while now, most people will simply be “normal users”. They will not be marked as members, as there ARE no members yet. So expect to hear something about that from people as they sign up. One of the things we always had to remind folks of on the VCA site is that a forums account did not make them a member. Being a member made them a member. Currently, there are only two forums which are “hidden”. This one, and one soley for moderators, so a normal member will be able to see everything except for these two forums.
Forums: The forums are currently set up in accordance with a document which was mailed to me. If there are additional forums you’d like to see, please discuss it and let me know. We will be needing an officers forum for sure, and I will most likely get that set up after the members database is complete.
Classifieds:
The software has been installed, and I will be configuring it next. I’ve already seen an issue with how it handles some HTML that I don’t like, so some tweaking is going to be needed. For now, I’m going to model the VCA categories, but I’m open for discussion. For now, all ads will be free ads. Once we get payment gateways in place, that can change.Gallery:
First, let me say that I do not like how the VCA gallery is set up at all. I will most likely go with the “generation” theme like the classifieds and then obviously add other sections such as regions. But basically, I’d like to clean it up more than the VCA site has it. The one at the alley is cleaner, but still not quite what I’d like to see. I’ll get that set up and we can discuss more.Members/Join/Renew:
This will be pretty similar to the VCA site, though for joining I’m going with one single page. Will be cleaner. The members portal will be similar to the VCA site however, with all updates and renewals funneling through there.Misc Pages:
There are several other little pages which will need to be done, such as the front page, club info, region information, etc which will be put together as needed. I will be requiring text for these pages, so that you can express exactly what it is you wish to get across to visitors. Obviously, we can things up as often as needed.Preferred methods of communication:
I would like to see each item we need to discuss, to be done here in this sub forum. It would be really great if we could have a new thread for each item we need to talk about. This way, not only are we not having to spam each other all day, but we can ensure that everyone sees exactly what the others thoughts are. It would also help me out by allowing me to better track your requests. Please let me know if this is agreeable to everyone. Those are my thoughts for now, what do you think?
