Sounded like a fun weekend. I definitely missed out!

Just make sure you make the October 15-16th NASA Central Region Event at Topeka, and invite all the guys that were at Hastings. I won’t let them know you have a little home field advantage, ha.

Special note concerning Jason Walsh, besides running a super fast time in his Viper to win his Class, he jumped into his Spec Miata and made every race of the weekend also —–definitely an Ironman Racer!!!!

This past weekend the Central Region of NASA held the Nebraska State Fair Grand Prix in Hastings, Nebraska and what felt like a mini " Viper Rendezvous " saw six Viper competing in both the racing series and time trials. Mark Kirby took overall top time honors and won the main races on Saturday in his Comp Coupe and no one was even close. Jason Walsh took his 96 GTS to the top time in the Time Trial Unlimited Class and that was where most of the other Snakes seemed to gather. What was interesting is the largest Class for Time Trials had every Viper except Kirby competing together since no one had gotten the mandatory Dyno runs to determine their HP to weight ratio. Talking to all the guys it was apparent all the venomous machines should have been in the T1 Class and likely some of them will be once they get a Dyno run done. The funniest comment I heard was from Josh Rubin from Colorado who stated, " Dang I brought a knife to a gun fight! I am running these lame Toyos and everyone else is on Michelin or Pirelli slicks!" Credit to Josh he was still running 1:33s and that was where everyone seemed to land except Jason Walsh who cracked a 1:29.097 on Saturday's competition. Jeff Kelderman, relatively new to tracking his Viper did get down to 1:32.615 during Sunday's track sessions. Listed below are each drivers best times, either from Saturday or Sunday, but I would say these guys are looking forward to having some extra seat time before the Viper Rendezvous in June of 2023!

Jason Walsh – 1:29.097
Jeff Kelderman – 1:32.615
Jeremy Jalas – 1:33.110
Josh Rubin – 1:33.183
Tom Ackerman – 1:33.468

Race Group
Mark Kirby – 1:27.341

Wow! Great showing guys! Hopefully the temps were a little cooler than in June.
Does anyone else run the stock Kumho’s?

None of the drivers were on Kumhos during the NASA Nebraska State Farm Grand Prix. I believe Kirby was on Michelin slicks for his Comp Coupe, with other drivers on used Pirelli slicks except Rubin, who was on Toyo RRs. Those of us who are aware of that tire or have run them will tell you they are likely 2-4 seconds slower than a set of used Pirelli or Michelin slicks, so it will be very interesting to see what he can run the next time he hits the Hasting track’s asphalt!? I am betting he will not show up with the Sloyos!

I still have much to learn about that track. Here is my fastest lap, which was lap 4 after spinning off track on lap 2. But going off track allowed me to have some open track to push.

Thanks for posting the video Josh, and I am betting you will use this past weekend to analyze and revisit the track , so when the Viper Rendezvous comes around you are a Snakecharmer to be reckoned with!

Letting off the throttle at turn 7 is costing you about 2 seconds believe it or not and you can get on full throttle way sooner after 6. The key to lap times at this track is how fast you get on full throttle during/after 6 and staying on full throttle all the way until you brake for turn 8. Everyone I watch through there could gain 3-4 seconds instantly by staying on full throttle 6 through 8 (under 700hp) No aero needed. There’s no time to be gained anywhere else, just a 10th here and there “perfecting your line”.
