Highway cruising, 60ish for mileage.
Around town, 4th is plenty high. I had 3.55s in my 02 and woild sometimes use 5th if cruising for a long stretch of road at 50mph in a 40 or 45 zone, but even that was rare. I think 4th is the gear you are looking for if you just want easy cruising and mileage on those areas in town. Otherwise, third is good for not running too high in the RPMs but still giving you some torque.
I do plan on doing the 3.55s though because the torque comes on a bit differently in the Gen III.

Anywhere over 60 while cruising and I’ll throw it in 6th gear without any worries with the stock gearing.

sssooooooo what rpm is considered lugging? anything below 2k?
-
It depends what you mean by “lugging”. Do you mean in too high of a gear where the car won’t make power and accelerate when you use throttle, or when the engine starts bucking/stalling from being in too high of a gear?
-
I mean the point where the rpms are to low and it is not healthy for the motor.

I live all day around 3 to 3.5k revs. I don’t think I’ve even used 6th yet…lol. Around town mostly 3rd gear and occasionally 4th.

I was taught that lugging a motor basically has the motor operating in a non-efficient manor and can cause pre detonation as a result. So it can be very hard on the motor internals.

I see what you mean. Trying to accelerate from low rpm in a high gear. Cruising would not be lugging. Stomping on the gas at 60 mph in 6th gear sounds like a bad idea. Is it lugging at 1k, 1.5k, 2k? I have no idea. Your right foot is probably telling you the answer. Maybe one of the techs can chime in. I keep my cars in an rpm range where I have good throttle response. I don’t like to downshift in order to accelerate. It’s more fun. Screw gas mileage.

Our speed limits top out at 60mph around my town. 6th gear almost feels like its lugging at 60mph. What speed do you you consider using your 6th gear on your gen3?
