I’ll give this a shot – as for the window getting stuck, that sounds like a regulator issue to me. You are right to want to replace the entire assembly.

Problem #2 – if the switches don’t light up, it is one of two things:

      1. The lights are burned out – this would be pretty unlikely since all of the switches are LEDs, and should last pretty much the life of the car. You’ve verified that they don’t light up when it is dark out? The stock lights are very dim, and can be hard to see during daylight hours.

      2. Something in the switch is haywire…you are probably better off ordering replacement switches rather than trying to troubleshoot the ones you have. For starters though, make sure they are all fully plugged in. For the door lock switches, you’ll have to remove the door panels, and that can be tricky on the Gen 3 cars with their flimsy trim pieces at the top of the panel. Just be careful removing the panels.

Also, for the door locks, you can only tell whether or not they are working by looking at the odometer – that’s the only indication as to whether or not the doors are locked. The key will need to be in the ON position to verify this. Just cycle through a few times and see what pops up in that display.

      Great tips. Thanks.

I am pretty sure they are not lighting up at all but I will verify the lights in the dark tonight. I agree that LEDs should not burn out this quickly, especially all of them. I have had the window switch fully out and reassembled when I removed the dash, so I am positive that at least those are fully plugged in. I will have to check the lock switches when I remove the door panel for the regulator.

I’ll check the door locks again with the odometer tonight, I would have never known check it that way, thank you.

Ok, nevermind about the door locks not working. I checked them with the key on and watched the dash indicator, they work. Also, checked the lights while it was very dark, they do work on all 4 switches. Like you said though, very dim.

So I guess the regulator is my only problem ๐Ÿ™‚

Last regulators I did were on a gen3 Vert. As mentioned above the trim pieces on top of the door panel are flimsy as hell. They have an aluminum insert inside of them and they usually separate from it. Easy fix is to re glue with BLACK 3m super weatherstrip adhesive if they fall apart. I separated them from the panel and rebuilt them then attached to the door panel. They are only held in place to the particle board of the panel by staples that go in about a 1/16th of an inch at best. Take your time if the car has been outside a lot of its life they wil be brittle and you will get to experience what I am talking about.

Also when trying to install the regulator take your time it will take a few tries to get the thing snaked in the door. Also have a friend help you remove the glass so you don’t have a bad day by dropping it when you release it from the regulator.

Good deal…you can make the lights brighter (or change the color), but it is a PITA. As long as the switches are working, I’d just leave them be.

Just wanted to follow up on this. I tried ordering a window regulator from JonB but he said they were on national backorder for months. I had found some other threads about window problems and read about indexing, decided to give it a shot. I followed these steps and now the window functions normally:

      1) Get in car and close the door.
      2) Turn the key on to the second position. Don’t start.
      3) Cycle window down and hold switch for 5 seconds and release.
      4) Cycle window up and hold switch for 5 seconds and release.
      5) Repeat 2 more times.

I did this after I replaced the battery in mine a couple years ago.

No Shit! Thanks for posting!! Trying this tonight. I will either be pleasantly surprised or my window will be stuck fully down and I will be pissed.

Well, I hate to have to revisit this thread but…

The relearn process turned out to only fix my problem temporarily, so I ordered a new window regulator to just put an end to it all. I replaced that a few weeks ago, the old one was indeed broken.

The problem I have now is that the window will go up and down just fine, except for random occasions after driving. When the door is opened it will not do its little drop to clear the roof. At this point the window won’t work at all. If I turn the car off and back on again it works great, no binding, up and down all you want.

Any other things I can try? I’ve done the relearn process on the new regulator multiple times. The car has a brand new battery kept on a tender. I’ve double checked the inside of the door and there is nothing binding up or in the way. It just quits working after a drive and then works fine if the car is turned off and back on again.

Why the hell does this window suck so bad?

I have done some searches but haven’t found the specific issue I am having.

I am aware of the window regulator and track issues on these cars and am almost positive my driver side window is binding up. The pass side works fine but the driver only likes to go up or down ONCE and then its stuck where you leave it. If you let the car sit a while or play with the switch for 10 minutes it will give you another shot but that is sporadic. I plan on just replacing the whole regulator as it seems the manual fix can be hit or miss.

What I am also noticing however is the lights on the window AND door lock switches do not light up. I also don’t think my door lock switches work at all. I have to use the FOB.

Any insight? Do I have 2 separate issues here or are they related?
